Position: Assistant Professor Mathematics (AI & Data Science Focus)

Role Summary
The Assistant Professor will deliver core and applied mathematics courses tailored to engineering programs, with a clear emphasis on AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, and computational methods. The role includes highquality teaching, AIintegrated curriculum development, mentorship, and interdisciplinary research aligned with contemporary industry and NEPaligned outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach foundational and applied courses such as Engineering Mathematics, Linear Algebra, Probability & Statistics, Optimization, Numerical Methods, and Discrete Mathematics, embedding AI/ML and data analytics contexts.
- Design and deliver AIaware curriculum (e.g., statistics for ML, matrix methods for deep learning, optimization for model training, stochastic processes for data modeling).
- Develop and run computational labs using Python (NumPy, pandas, scikitlearn), MATLAB/R, and notebooks for simulations, data analysis, and algorithmic experimentation.
- Guide student projects connecting mathematics with AI/ML (e.g., regression & classification pipelines, timeseries forecasting, optimization of hyperparameters, graph analytics).
- Contribute to outcome-based education (OBE): course files, rubrics, question banks, Bloom's levels mapping, COPOPSO mapping, and continuous assessment design.
- Pursue interdisciplinary research (AI for scientific computing, optimization, stochastic modeling, mathematical foundations of ML) leading to publications, patents, and funded projects/consultancy.
- Mentor students for hackathons, Kagglestyle challenges, coding clubs, math circles, and entrepreneurship initiatives.
- Participate in NBA/NAAC documentation, curriculum revision, BOS/BoE activities, and academic governance.
- Conduct/participate in FDPs, workshops, and industry collaborations; support internships and placements with mathforAI skills.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- PHD in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics/Statistics with First Class or equivalent.
- Ph.D. in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics/Statistics/Data Science/Operational Research or related area with relevance to AI/ML/computational methods (preferred; as per UGC norms).
- NET/SET qualification as applicable under UGC regulations.
- Desirable: Teaching or research experience that demonstrates integration of mathematics with AI/ML/data science; record of publications in peerreviewed venues.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong command over Linear Algebra, Probability & Statistics, Real/Complex Analysis, Optimization, Numerical Methods, and Discrete Structures.
- Working proficiency with Python for data analysis and basic ML (e.g., NumPy/pandas/scikitlearn), and familiarity with MATLAB/R.
- Ability to translate theory into AI use cases (e.g., eigendecomposition & PCA, convex optimization for model training, statistical inference for A/B testing, Markov chains & HMMs, SVD in recommender systems).
- Experience with innovative pedagogy (blended learning, flipped classrooms, projectbased learning) and LMS tools.
- Strong communication, mentoring, teamwork, and documentation skills.
