About the Role
The Assistant Professor will drive innovation and excellence in teaching, research, and industry engagement within the rapidly evolving FinTech sector, directly supporting the school's mission to develop globally-minded and socially responsible leaders. The Assistant Professor will contribute to the School's research profile and to governance and service activities that contribute to the School's mission. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to research, teaching, and community and industry engagement in a collegiate environment.
The Assistant Professor will work closely with the Dean of Academic Programs and other stakeholders to cultivate a vibrant and supportive learning environment.
This position provides a platform to influence the future of financial technology education and practice. As part of an AACSB-accredited institution, the role demands a commitment to curriculum excellence, student success, and impactful industry engagement.
Key responsibilities / accountabilities
Coordinate or work with Dean/Coordinator to prepare, deliver and assess lectures and seminars.
Conduct tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, and workshops.
Initiate, develop, and produce subject/teaching materials.
Comply with all relevant UOW guidelines.
Develop technology enhanced learning materials.
Undertake administrative functions connected with teaching including consultation with students, marking and assessment, Assurance of Learning and Quality Assurance.
Conduct research and publish in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals indexed in ABDC (A/B-rated or higher), Scopus Q1/Q2, or FT50 journals.
Comply with all relevant UOW, faculty and school policies and guidelines.
Develop and maintain strong industry partnerships with financial institutions, FinTech firms, and regulatory agencies. Integrate industry-led projects into coursework, mentor students in industry collaborations, and contribute to professional bodies (e.g., CFA Institute, CAIA, FRM).
Seek research funding.
Supervise the program of study of postgraduate students engaged in course work and/or supervision of major postgraduate coursework research projects. This includes initiating industry-based projects conducted by postgraduate students as part of their program of study.
Maintain a standard and balance of performance across the core areas of academic work in accordance with the Academic Performance Framework.
Assist with student services including recruitment, registration, onboarding and student support.

About the candidate
Selection criteria Qualifications, Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
Essential:
Possession of a relevant Doctoral qualification
Teaching experience in Finance, with expertise in Financial Technology (FinTech)/ Information Technology with a strong foundational knowledge of Finance.
Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues,
Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the field such as a record of scholarly learning and teaching including innovative curriculum design, teaching pedagogies, and/or positive engagement with community, industry, government,
Demonstrated research expertise, including but not limited to literature review, qualitative and quantitative research, and publications in high-quality academic journals. Demonstrated contribution to Governance and Service activity both within the University and external bodies (eg professional associations)
Fluency in English (both spoken and written).
Desirable:
Specialized expertise in FinTech, including emerging technologies such as blockchain, AI-driven finance, and digital banking. In-depth knowledge of Functional Programming, particularly Python and its application in Financial Technology and Analytics. )
Ability to travel to UOW Dubai and/or UOW Australia,
Ability to work outside of business hours to teach if required.
Working knowledge of Hindi.
