Role Objective
The role would be part of the Central Buying Organization (CBO) in the Animal Feed Business of Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL). CBO procures more than 1.5 MMT of agri products for multiple businesses of GAVL.
The incumbent will be responsible for procuring raw materials (RMs) and other feed ingredients with a sharp focus on cost efficiency, supply continuity, and supplier performance. The role demands strong market intelligence, imports knowledge, and stakeholder management skills to support business growth and competitiveness.
Given the high volatility in agri-product prices and availability, the candidate must be self-driven, agile, and capable of making timely decisions and ensuring flawless execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sourcing & Procurement
- Manage end-to-end sourcing of raw materials such as agri-commodities, animal and vegetable proteins, etc., required for feed manufacturing
- Spares and consumables planning and procurement in close coordination with Production and Stores function
- Develop and execute short-term and long-term procurement strategies to address demandsupply gaps and optimize costs
- Continuously identify and introduce new raw materials/vendors to enhance product portfolio and cost-effectiveness
- Creation of Purchase Orders, follow-up for delivery completion, payment processing, and other transactions involved in the Procure-to-Pay cycle
2. Market Research & Analysis
- Conduct detailed on-field crop surveys by travelling to source/producing markets and through direct farmer interactions
- Track domestic and global market trends, price movements, and supply chain dynamics to anticipate risks and opportunities
- Must be ready to travel extensively across India for vendor development, crop surveys, market trend assessment, and resolution of business challenges
3. Technology & Digital
- Leverage ERP platforms (e.g., SAP MM) for procurement operations, reporting, and analytics
- Use E-Auction and digital sourcing tools and mobile apps to enhance transparency and drive competitive buying
- Apply data analytics and dashboards for real-time tracking of commodity prices, inventory, and supplier performance
- Contribute to digital transformation initiatives in procurement by automating reports, improving MIS, and adopting advanced decision-making tools
4. Logistics & Imports
- Oversee inbound logistics operations required for timely delivery of material through optimal routes and costs
- Handle import operations, documentation, and compliance for international sourcing
- Apply tools and techniques to reduce logistics costs across key raw materials
5. Supplier Relationship Management
- Conduct supplier visits and engage directly with vendors to conduct audits and evaluate performance on business-critical parameters
- Drive supplier performance management programs to ensure alignment with business objectives
- Leverage organizational strengths to expand and maintain a competitive vendor base with long-term relationships
6. Business & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with cross-functional teams to implement sourcing strategies and ensure supply continuity
- Achieve On-Time Delivery (OTD) targets and secure uninterrupted plant operations
- Ensure compliance with organizational value systems, internal controls, and reporting requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-Graduation in Management education (Agri Business/ SCM major)
- Minimum 34 years of relevant experience in agri-commodities, feed, or allied industries
- Proven expertise in:
- Strategic sourcing and procurement
- Market intelligence and analytics
- Import-led buying
- Supplier performance management
- Working knowledge of SAP MM, E-Auction platforms, and digital procurement tools is desirable
- High willingness to travel extensively across geographies for supplier visits and market intelligence
