Position Summary
The Assistant or Associate Professor and Director of Preclinical Education provides leadership, coordination, and continuous quality improvement of all preclinical simulation-based education within the dental curriculum. This position ensures that preclinical instruction prepares students for safe and competent entry into patient care experiences while maintaining alignment with institutional goals and Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards.
The Director collaborates with faculty, course directors, and academic leadership to oversee preclinical curriculum delivery, student progression, faculty development, and implementation of innovative evidence-based teaching practices within the simulation learning environment.
- Lead and oversee all preclinical simulation laboratory courses, instruction, and educational activities
- Ensure integration of preclinical curriculum with biomedical sciences and clinical education
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices for simulation-based instruction
- Coordinate scheduling, facilities, equipment, and materials for preclinical laboratories and simulation spaces
- Supervise preclinical faculty, course directors, and simulation support staff
- Lead faculty calibration efforts to ensure consistency in instruction, grading, and student assessment
- Monitor student performance, competency development, and readiness for transition into clinical care
- Deliver didactic and preclinical laboratory instruction and provide direct supervision and feedback to students
- Support curriculum development, course assessment, accreditation preparation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Promote innovation through integration of digital dentistry, simulation technologies, and emerging educational methods
- DDS/DMD or equivalent dental degree
- Eligibility for Florida State dental licensure or Florida Dental Teaching License
- Experience in preclinical dental education or simulation-based teaching
- Demonstrated ability in teaching, curriculum development, and academic leadership
- Advanced training such as MS degree or specialty certification
- Academic experience at the predoctoral dental level
- Experience with digital dentistry and simulation technologies
