EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION:
This is a permanent, managerial position. The role involves the exercise of discretion and independent judgement in matters of significance, including vendor strategy, P&L decisions, and product development roadmaps.
ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Manager - Sourcing will own the end-to-end sourcing and category P&L for assigned subcategories on Amazon.in. This is a high-ownership role spanning private brand sourcing (including imports), supplier identification and onboarding, product development, commercial negotiations, and promotion management. The role requires strong analytical capability, sound business judgement, and the ability to operate with confidence in an evolving and ambiguous environment.
SELECTION & VENDOR DEVELOPMENT:
The role requires continuous expansion of product selection within assigned categories - both through deepening relationships with existing vendors and by proactively identifying and onboarding new suppliers. Building a healthy, competitive, and diverse vendor base is a core responsibility. The candidate is expected to have a structured approach to vendor evaluation and a sharp sense of what customers want before they ask for it.
P&L & COMMERCIAL OWNERSHIP:
The incumbent will own the category P&L in its entirety - setting the right commercials, managing Terms of Trade, and driving pricing and promotion strategies in line with business, seasonal, and event-specific requirements. Active negotiation on coupons, promotions, merchandising, event participation, and liquidation is expected to protect and grow the bottom line on a sustained basis.
VENDOR RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Strategic vendor relationships are central to this role. The candidate is expected to go beyond transactional engagement - conducting periodic in-person meetings, leading weekly and monthly business reviews, and working cross-functionally to resolve vendor issues in a timely manner. The goal is to create partnerships that deliver sustainable top-line and bottom-line growth, not merely short-term wins.
CUSTOMER CENTRICITY:
The candidate is expected to be the voice of the customer in every vendor conversation - maintaining a high quality bar, staying abreast of the competitive landscape, and ensuring that every product launch and selection decision is grounded in genuine customer need. Category knowledge and advocacy for excellent customer experience are non-negotiable expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
An MBA from any top institution is required, along with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in sourcing, private labels, retail buying, retail planning, or category management within e-commerce or organised retail. Import sourcing experience is a meaningful differentiator. The candidate must be proficient in Excel, SQL, comfortable making data-driven decisions, and experienced in vendor negotiations and influencing without authority.
