Assistant Manager - People & Culture

Long-term accommodation booking platform for students for student housing. Amber helps 80M students worldwide, find and book full-time accommodations near their universities, without the hassle of negotiation, non-standardized and cumbersome paperwork, and broken payment process. We are the leading student housing platform globally, with 1M+ student housing units listed in 6 countries and across 80 cities. We are growing rapidly and targeting $1B in annual gross bookings. Amber raised $18.5M from Marquee investors like Gaja capital.

Role Overview

We are looking for an Assistant Manager - People & Culture to drive and execute employee engagement initiatives across the organization. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, brings creativity with execution rigor, and enjoys owning programs that positively impact employee experience, culture, and retention.

1. Employee Engagement & Culture Strategy

  • Design and drive an employee engagement and culture roadmap that brings company values to life and supports people and business goals.
  • Lead the planning and execution of engagement initiatives such as recognition programs, cultural celebrations, and community-building experiences.
  • Ensure programs are inclusive, scalable, and consistently experienced across teams and locations while driving strong participation through stakeholder alignment.

2. Internal Communications

  • Support internal communication strategies that help employees connect with company culture, values, and priorities.
  • Create and manage engaging internal content including leadership updates, newsletters, campaigns, and organization-wide announcements.
  • Partner with HR and leadership teams to deliver clear, relatable, and impactful messaging during key initiatives and organizational updates.

3. Employee Feedback & Insights

  • Build effective channels to capture employee feedback and sentiment around engagement initiatives and workplace experience.
  • Track engagement metrics, participation levels, and program impact through dashboards and reports.
  • Analyze feedback and data to continuously refine engagement strategies and improve employee experience.

4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate closely with HR, Talent Acquisition, Admin, and business teams to deliver seamless engagement initiatives.
  • Act as a coordination point to ensure alignment, clarity, and timely execution across stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships to embed engagement initiatives into everyday people practices.

5. Vendor & Budget Management

  • Partner with external vendors to execute engagement programs and events.
  • Manage planning, logistics, and budgets to ensure smooth delivery and high-quality employee experiences.

6. Employee Experience Innovation

  • Stay updated on emerging trends and best practices in employee engagement and workplace experience.
  • Conceptualize and implement initiatives focused on wellness, inclusion, belonging, and positive workplace culture.
  • Recommend improvements based on employee feedback, insights, and organizational needs.

7. Execution Excellence

  • Maintain calendars, trackers, and documentation to keep initiatives organized and on schedule.
  • Ensure smooth on-ground execution and conduct post-event reviews to continuously improve future initiatives.

8. Cross-Functional HR Support & Learning

  • Demonstrate a collaborative mindset by supporting broader HR initiatives when required.
  • Work with teams across Talent Acquisition, HR Operations, and People Programs to gain exposure to different HR functions and contribute to organizational priorities.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Psychology, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in employee engagement, event management, internal communications, or culture-building roles.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage diverse employee groups.
  • Creative mindset with strong execution and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable managing multiple initiatives in a fast-growing environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office / Google Workspace; familiarity with Canva or similar tools is a plus.
  • High ownership, proactive approach, and people-first mindset.
