Job Summary:

The AM – Logistics, Freight Procurement & Transportation will be responsible for managing and optimizing road freight procurement across India. The role involves developing a strong network of transporters, negotiating competitive freight rates, ensuring vehicle availability, and driving transportation cost efficiencies. The candidate should possess deep market knowledge of trucking operations, freight trends, transporter relationships, and route-wise logistics planning to support business growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Freight Procurement & Transportation Management

• Lead freight procurement activities for road transportation across India.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with transporters, fleet owners, and logistics partners.

• Source trucks, trailers, and specialized vehicles as per business requirements.

• Negotiate freight rates, contracts, and service agreements to achieve cost optimization.

• Build a reliable transporter network across key operating regions and trade corridors.

• Monitor market freight trends and identify opportunities for transportation cost reduction.

• Ensure timely vehicle placement and uninterrupted transportation operations.

Vendor Development & Relationship Management

• Identify, evaluate, onboard, and manage transport vendors across India.

• Develop alternate transporter sources to mitigate capacity risks.

• Conduct regular performance reviews of transport partners based on service quality, vehicle availability, transit timelines, and commercial competitiveness.

• Resolve operational and commercial disputes with transport partners.

Cost Optimization & Strategic Sourcing

• Analyze freight spend and implement cost-saving initiatives.

• Develop lane-wise freight benchmarks and procurement strategies.

• Drive annual freight contracts and strategic sourcing programs.

• Improve transportation efficiency through route optimization and load planning.

Operational Coordination

• Coordinate with commercial, operations, procurement, and customer teams to ensure smooth execution of transportation and related logistics.

• Monitor vehicle movement and ensure adherence to delivery timelines.

• Address transportation bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.

• Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and company policies.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.

• 6+ years of experience in Freight Procurement, Transportation Sourcing, Logistics Procurement, or Road Transportation Management.

• Strong network of transporters, fleet operators, and logistics service providers across India.

• Proven expertise in freight negotiation, contract management, and transportation cost optimization.

• Experience handling bulk movement through trucks, trailers, and road transportation networks.

• Exposure to steel, metals, construction materials, cement, infrastructure, or related industries will be preferred.
