India Tax and Finance team is responsible for controllership activities for both FIL and Eight Roads Indian entities and their respective holding companies based in Mauritius. The team is responsible not only for maintaining books of accounts, including audit and maintaining controls, but also for other statutory and regulatory compliances covering taxation, SEZ, foreign exchange control and other related compliances.

Team in recent past has set up a new capability i.e. Tax support Centre of Excellence partnering with regional finance and tax controllers for managing regional and group tax compliances including for US and Canada.

Team's activity includes:

  • Controllership - Month close activities, Balance Sheet schedules, inter company, fixed assets maintenance, preparation of year-end financial statements, statutory audit and various cross functional projects
  • Tax Support CoE - Managing group tax compliances, VAT return of overseas entities, Country by Country Reporting including Master File, partnering with Group Tax team in year end consolidation , financial data assimilation for filing tax return across all regions including Canada
  • Direct and Indirect taxation compliances - Corporate tax, transfer pricing, Goods and Service tax, litigation management , alternate dispute resolution programmes
  • Treasury - Liquidity Management, Cash Repatriation, Exchange control compliances, as applicable and payments to vendors and employees
  • Regulatory Compliances - SEZ reporting, Indian Companies House amongst others

The role is also responsible to analyse tax implication and financial implications while dealing with asset movement and payments compliances. In long term the role is responsible for managing other work area of team for taxation and Indian controllership.

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing all SEZ compliances, including MPR filing, APR filing, Softex filing, invoice endorsement for materials and services, and other related requirements.
  • Managing non-STPI compliances, such as Softex filing, license renewal, and associated obligations.
  • Handling the debonding of assets during transfer or sale from the SEZ unit.
  • Coordinating with CHA for import clearance of assets including High Sea Sales
  • Generating e-way bills for asset movement including asset debonding.
  • Securing regulatory approvals for inward and outward movement of materials , including repairs and replacements, from the SEZ as needed.
  • Addressing notices and queries issued by the SEZ department on an ongoing basis.
  • Renewing SEZ approvals and submitting BLUT filings.
  • Administering banking payments, ensuring all controls and checks are consistently maintained as per agreed procedures.
  • Facilitating internal and statutory audits for relevant areas.
  • Booking bank journals within the accounting ERP system.
  • Collaborating with internal departments and external advisors to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Contributing to process improvements and automation projects related to tax compliance and reporting.
  • Assisting with special projects or other ad hoc requests as needed.
  • Customs Bond Register Maintenance.
  • Maintaining proper documentation and working papers to support audits and internal control processes

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Graduate or CA inter with 5-6 years of relevant experience in SEZ compliances and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of SEZ ACT.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems. Knowledge of Hyperion Smartview is a plus.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work in a cross-functional and cross-border team environment.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, communication and presentation skills
  • A motivated and eager to learn attitude
  • Knowledge of automation tools, like Power BI, Power Automate would be added advantage
  • Skills to show attention to detail and an appetite to dive into issues in depth as needed
  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute towards team goals, but equally able to work independently and deliver results
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks against tight deadlines, able to prioritise and organise effectively
  • Ability to grasp new concepts, assimilate information and deliver high quality solutions at speed
  • Resilient, energetic, and enthusiastic approach
  • Ability to cope with sustained pressure
