Position: Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager – EXIM Operations

Experience: 5–12 Years

About The Role

We are looking for an experienced EXIM professional to independently manage end-to-end Export, Import and Cross-Trade operations, ensuring timely shipment execution, documentation accuracy, customs compliance and cost control across domestic and international business operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end Export & Import operations from shipment booking to delivery and documentation closure.
  • Handle Sea & Air shipments, including FCL/LCL operations and coordination with freight forwarders, CHA and overseas agents.
  • Prepare, verify and maintain commercial and shipping documentation, including Invoice, Packing List, Shipping Bill, Bill of Lading/AWB, Certificate of Origin, Insurance and other required documents.
  • Coordinate with CHA/customs for classification, valuation, customs filing, examination and shipment clearance.
  • Manage Import of raw materials, consumables, spares and capital goods for SEZ/DTA operations.
  • Handle Third-Country / Cross-Trade shipments, including switch BL, third-party invoicing, origin documentation and related compliance.
  • Ensure correct application of HSN/HS classification, Incoterms and applicable EXIM regulations.
  • Monitor demurrage, detention and free-time, taking proactive action to avoid additional costs.
  • Manage and evaluate freight forwarders, CHA and overseas agents against agreed service levels and commercial terms.
  • Verify freight/CHA/agent invoices and coordinate with Finance for timely settlement.
  • Maintain a live shipment tracker and provide regular MIS/reporting on shipment status, freight cost, demurrage/detention, claims and chargebacks.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable FEMA, DGFT, SEZ and customs requirements.
  • Coordinate with Production, Quality, Finance, Customer Experience and overseas teams for smooth shipment execution.

Mandatory Candidate Requirements

Candidates Must Have

  • Strong hands-on experience in both Export AND Import operations – export-only profiles will not be considered.
  • Practical experience in Third-Country / Cross-Trade / Merchanting Trade.
  • Experience in Sea Freight and preferably Air Freight.
  • Strong knowledge of Shipping Bill, Bill of Entry, BL/AWB, COO, Invoice, Packing List and customs documentation.
  • Working knowledge of SEZ/DTA operations and customs procedures.
  • Knowledge of HS classification, valuation, Incoterms 2020, DGFT and FEMA requirements.
  • Experience managing freight forwarders, CHA and overseas agents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly professional email correspondence.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and coordination skills.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Excel/MIS.

Candidates from the following backgrounds can be considered:

  • Freight Forwarding / NVOCC / CHA
  • Corporate EXIM / International Trade
  • Manufacturing / Export-oriented organizations
  • SEZ / EOU / Bonded Warehouse
  • Companies handling high-SKU/customized products
  • Experience with Marketplace/Retail Partner logistics will be an added advantage.

Education

  • Graduate in any discipline.
  • PG qualification in International Business / Foreign Trade / Supply Chain preferred.
  • Customs/Trade certification will be an added advantage.
