Job Description

Qualification - MA, MSC in Sociology, Social Science

Experience - 0-4 years

Role Context: The Terai Tiger Project is a long-term human-wildlife conflict mitigation initiative implemented by the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) across the Pilibhit–Dudhwa–Katerniaghat landscape in Uttar Pradesh. The project focuses on promoting coexistence between local communities and wildlife through conflict mitigation, community engagement, ecological monitoring, and conservation interventions.

The Field Officer will support the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities, while coordinating with communities, government agencies, Forest Department officials, and other stakeholders. The role involves field-based conservation work, wildlife conflict response, data management, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring compliance with organizational and donor requirements to achieve project objectives. The Key Responsibilities are as follows –

  • Support implementation of project activities in accordance with approved project plans and timelines.
  • Attend and coordinate wildlife conflict emergencies as a member of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) within the project landscape.
  • Support implementation of human-wildlife conflict mitigation interventions and coexistence initiatives in accordance with approved project plans.
  • Coordinate with Primary Response Teams (PRTs), local communities, Forest Department personnel, government agencies, and other stakeholders for effective implementation of project activities.
  • Collect, compile, and maintain data related to conflict incidents, field interventions, wildlife monitoring, and community engagement activities.
  • Conduct field surveys, ecological assessments, wildlife monitoring exercises, camera trapping, sign surveys, and habitat assessments as required under the project.
  • Support implementation of awareness programmes, community consultations, training programmes, and sensitization initiatives in conflict-prone areas.
  • Facilitate community participation in project activities and promote sustainable coexistence practices.
  • Assist in implementation of early warning systems, conflict prevention measures, and community-based conservation interventions.

The Detailed Job Description Is As Follows -

Project Planning & Management

  • Support preparation and execution of annual work plans, activity schedules, and project implementation strategies.
  • Ensure timely completion of assigned activities in accordance with project objectives, donor requirements, and organizational standards.
  • Monitor project activities and provide recommendations for improving effectiveness and efficiency of interventions.
  • Assist in evaluating project outcomes through regular monitoring, data collection, and field assessments.
  • Maintain proper documentation of field activities, project achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Identify operational challenges and recommend appropriate corrective actions to the Project Head.
  • Participate actively in performance review processes, organizational meetings, trainings, and capacity-building programmes.

Fund & Financial Management

  • Support preparation of activity budgets and resource requirements for project implementation.
  • Ensure efficient and responsible utilization of project resources and assets.
  • Maintain supporting records and documentation related to project expenditures as per organizational policies and donor guidelines.
  • Assist in financial reporting and budget monitoring as required by the Project Head.
  • Ensure compliance with financial procedures, procurement guidelines, and internal controls established by the organization.

Donor Coordination

  • Contribute to preparation of donor reports, technical updates, and project documentation.
  • Support donor visits, field demonstrations, and monitoring missions as required.
  • Ensure project activities and documentation comply with donor commitments and reporting requirements.
  • Assist in compilation of information and data required for proposal development and fundraising initiatives.

External Communication & Coordination

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with local communities, government agencies, Forest Department officials, academic institutions, and conservation partners.
  • Represent the project during meetings, workshops, consultations, training programmes, and relevant conservation forums as authorized.
  • Support preparation of communication materials, case studies, success stories, and outreach content for organizational publications and digital platforms.
  • Facilitate information sharing and coordination among stakeholders to strengthen project implementation and conservation outcomes.
  • Promote the objectives, values, and conservation mission of the Wildlife Trust of India through professional engagement with stakeholders.

MIS & Reports

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project databases, records, and documentation.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as required.
  • Ensure timely collection, compilation, verification, and analysis of project data.
  • Maintain proper records of field activities, wildlife conflict incidents, community interventions, trainings, and project outputs.
  • Support preparation of presentations, technical reports, donor reports, and other project-related documentation.

Any Other Responsibilities

  • Undertake any additional responsibilities assigned by the Project Head, Division Head, Principal Investigator, or organizational leadership from time to time.
  • Support other projects, organizational initiatives, and conservation programmes of the Conflict Mitigation & Coexistence Division whenever required.
