We are looking to hire a motivated and outstanding journalist to join the Collective Newsroom as Assistant Editor English Content. The role requires you to oversee the BBC's English YouTube channel for India (BBC News India). You will also lead any future English content that we produce for the BBC. The BBC is the world leader in digital journalism, and at the forefront of both the range of editorial coverage and technological innovation. The role of Assistant Editor is crucial in delivering well-produced video content for the YouTube channel which can also be used on other platforms. The successful candidate will have experience of managing a team, and strong editorial understanding of India as well as digital media. You will be asked to manage a team as well as lead the production of high-impact and high-value content for YouTube and allied platforms. Strong command over English language is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain high professional standards of journalism, ensuring delivery of high quality digital content for the BBC's India English YouTube channel.
- Responsible for commissioning and editorial sign off of all content including news, shorts, explainers, interviews, features and long form.
- Ensure that commissioned content meet's the expectations of our audiences and adhere to the BBC's editorial guidelines.
- Ideate, commission and edit video stories/scripts from the BBC's language services.
- Guide, oversee, mentor and provide constructive feedback to members of the BBC's India English YouTube video team and other English journalists.
- Ideate, commission and edit video stories/scripts from the BBC's language services or other BBC outlets.
- As required, allocate work to a team and check progress; ensure quality of output.
- Sets team and individual objectives, as well as clear expectations about required performance levels, rewards success and addresses performance issues promptly and fairly, treats team members with respect
- Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and to ensure that our output reflects the audiences we serve.
- Deliver journalism of the highest standard and within the required timeframe using available resources.

Requirements
Skills and experience
- A senior journalist with significant editorial experience of digital news and media.
- Must be fluent in written and spoken English.
- Strong knowledge of digital journalism including formats, platforms and analytics.
- Able to prioritise and plan activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing, programme budgets and resource requirements.
- An understanding of the Indian social media landscape in English and audience needs
- An understanding of social media platforms, content and audiences
- Demonstrate sound editorial decisions based upon a clear understanding of the BBC's distinctive news agenda and the Indian news context.
- The ability to work flexible hours when required including on weekends if necessary.
