About the Role
The Hindu Group is looking for an experienced and dynamic newsroom professional to join our Editorial team as Assistant Editor – News Desk at Chennai.
Responsibilities
- Editing and Publishing: To review, edit, and rewrite articles for accuracy, clarity, coherence, and adherence to the publication's style guidelines, and to publish stories online, in addition to using them on pages.
- Headline Writing: To craft engaging and accurate headlines and subheadings that capture the essence of the news piece while adhering to best practices.
- Page-making: To handle page layout, ensuring proper visual hierarchy and optimal space utilization, and adding elements to enhance its aesthetics.
- Collaboration: To coordinate with reporters, writers, and other editorial team members to ensure cohesive and high-quality content production for online and print.
- Deadline Management: To work efficiently under tight deadlines while maintaining high editorial standards.
- Staying Updated: To keep abreast of the market trends, global economic news, and industry developments to guide content decisions.
Preferred Candidate Profile:
- 5–12 years of experience in newsroom editing/news desk operations.
- Strong editorial judgment and page planning expertise.
- Experience in print newsroom production and deadline-driven environments.
- Familiarity with digital-first editorial workflows.
- Proficiency in English is mandatory.
