Role Overview
We are looking for a highly driven and entrepreneurial Area Sales Manager – Modern Trade to manage and grow across Gujarat or Madhya Pradesh. The role requires strong business acumen, relationship management, execution excellence, and an in-depth understanding of the Modern Trade ecosystem within the Food/FMCG industry.
The incumbent will be responsible for driving sales growth, ensuring strong in-store execution, managing key account relationships, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives within the assigned territory.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and drive business across assigned Modern Trade chains including Reliance Retail, DMart, More Retail, Spencer's, Star Bazaar, Lulu, Nature's Basket etc.
- Drive achievement of sales KPIs including primary sales, secondary sales, range selling, visibility, and off-take growth
- Build and maintain strong relationships with category managers, buyers, distributors, and store teams
- Ensure effective execution of promotions, activations, visibility campaigns, merchandising initiatives, and new product launches
- Drive distribution expansion and improve product availability across Modern Trade outlets in the assigned region
- Monitor stock availability, replenishment cycles, fill rates, and inventory health across accounts
- Conduct regular market visits to ensure execution excellence and identify business growth opportunities
- Analyze sales performance, generate business insights, and present account-level reviews to internal stakeholders
- Collaborate closely with supply chain, marketing, finance, and distributor teams to ensure seamless execution
- Track competitor activities, pricing, promotions, and market trends to strengthen business performance
- Ensure adherence to business hygiene processes and operational efficiency across accounts
Ideal Candidate
- 1-5 years of experience in Modern Trade within the Food or FMCG industry
- Candidates currently working in Modern Trade roles programs within FMCG companies will be preferred
- Strong understanding of Modern Trade operations and sales execution
- Prior experience handling Modern Trade accounts in Andhra Pradesh will be preferred
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in MS Excel and sales reporting
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and target-driven environment
