In India, ETS plays a growing and strategic role in large-scale education assessment, policy-aligned measurement, and capacity building, working closely with public-sector and system-level stakeholders.

Role Overview

The Assessment Expert serves as a senior psychometric and educational measurement leader, providing technical and strategic direction for large-scale education assessment initiatives. This role is critical to ensuring that ETS-led and ETS-supported assessments are psychometrically sound, policy-relevant, and operationally successful for external clients—particularly government and public-sector education bodies.

You will lead and oversee statistical design, psychometric analysis, research studies, and technical advisory work, while representing ETS India as a trusted expert partner. The role includes team leadership, mentoring, capacity building, and close collaboration with ETS global experts and headquarters teams.

Key ResponsibilitiesPsychometric & Technical Leadership

  • Provide expert guidance in psychometrics, educational measurement, and large-scale assessment design.
  • Define and lead the statistical and research components of education assessment programs.
  • Frame complex technical and implementation challenges and propose evidence-based solutions.
  • Design, conduct, and oversee research and psychometric studies, ensuring technical rigor, validity, and accuracy.
  • Review statistical outputs and findings for reasonableness, quality, and policy relevance.

Client Advisory & Representation

  • Serve as a senior technical advisor to external clients on assessment, measurement, and data-related topics.
  • Translate complex psychometric concepts into clear, actionable insights for decision-makers.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, policy-ready documentation, and executive-level presentations.
  • Represent ETS India and ETS globally in client engagements, workshops, and review forums.

Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Coordinate and guide the work of Junior Psychometricians and subject matter experts in India.
  • Collaborate closely with ETS global research and psychometric teams to ensure alignment to enterprise standards.
  • Conduct seminars, workshops, and briefings for ETS staff, clients, test committees, and policy bodies.
  • Coach and mentor staff, supporting professional development and technical excellence.
  • Participate in interviewing, onboarding, and training of new team members.

Knowledge Sharing & Professional Contribution

  • Support capacity building for client and ETS India teams on principles of psychometrics and educational measurement.
  • Contribute to research publications, technical reports, and professional forums.
  • Represent ETS through engagement with professional bodies and academic communities, as appropriate.



Qualifications Required

  • Postgraduate degree in Education, Educational Measurement, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Formal certification or specialized training in assessment and psychometrics.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in assessment development or educational measurement, preferably within large-scale or system-level contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience working on government or public-sector education assessment initiatives.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in multi-stakeholder environments, including with education boards, ministries, or system-level bodies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing technical reports and presentations.

Preferred / Desirable

  • Experience with foundational or early-grade assessments.
  • Experience developing and delivering training modules on pedagogy, assessment, or data use.
  • Familiarity with Indian education institutions and structures, such as SCERTs, DIETs, or state education systems.
  • Broad understanding of education and assessment frameworks.
