As400 Consultant

We are looking for an experienced AS400 Consultant to support, maintain, and enhance applications running on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform. The ideal candidate will have 710 years of experience in RPG development, system analysis, and production support, with strong domain expertise in banking, insurance, or manufacturing systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain applications using RPG (RPG III, IV, Free Format), CL, COBOL on the AS400 platform.
• Analyze business requirements and provide technical solutions within AS400/iSeries systems.
• Perform code enhancements, bug fixes, testing, and deployment activities.
• Collaborate with functional teams to support business-critical systems and ensure uptime.
• Conduct system analysis, performance tuning, and data validation.
• Provide L2/L3 support for production incidents and ensure timely resolution.
• Participate in data migration, application modernization, and integration projects.
• Prepare technical documentation, user manuals, and change request records.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• 710 years of hands-on experience on IBM iSeries / AS400 systems.
• Proficiency in RPG (RPG III/IV/ILE/Free Format), CLP/CLLE, and DB2/400 (SQL/DDL/DML).
• Strong understanding of AS400 job management, batch processing, and spool file handling.
• Experience with debugging tools, performance analysis, and job scheduling (e.g., Control-M or native schedulers).
• Ability to analyze legacy code and perform reverse engineering when needed.
• Solid understanding of SDLC and change management processes.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):

• Experience with integration between AS400 and web services, APIs, or third-party platforms.
• Knowledge of banking/insurance/manufacturing core applications (e.g., Loan Origination, Policy Admin, ERP).
• Familiarity with modernization tools (e.g., LANSA, Profound UI, IBM Rational tools).
• Exposure to Agile methodologies and DevOps tools.
