Artificial Intelligence Engineer

SchoolCues is looking for an AI Engineer with 2+ years of experience to join our team and help build intelligent features into our school management platform. You'll work directly with senior technical leadership, with real mentorship built into the role — this is a great opportunity for someone who wants to grow quickly while shipping production AI features that impact schools, families, and administrators.

•       Design, build, and deploy AI/ML features across the SchoolCues platform (e.g., automated communications, smart notifications, document processing, data insights for school admins)

•       Integrate LLM-powered capabilities (via APIs such as Anthropic, OpenAI, or similar) into existing product workflows

•       Build and maintain data pipelines to support model training, evaluation, and monitoring

•       Collaborate with product and engineering teams to identify high-value use cases for AI within an education SaaS context

•       Write clean, well-tested, production-grade code and participate in code review

•       Help evaluate and implement responsible AI practices, keeping in mind student data privacy (FERPA, COPPA, SOPIPA, NY §2-d)

•       Continuously learn new tools/techniques in the fast-moving AI space and bring ideas back to the team

Familiarity with some or all of the following is a plus — we'll help you ramp up on the rest:

•       Backend: Node.js / Python, PostgreSQL

•       Cloud infrastructure: AWS (EC2, CloudFront, and related services)

•       Payments & integrations: Stripe and Stripe Connect (test/production environments, webhooks), QuickBooks Online API (OAuth 2.0)

•       CI/CD & testing: TeamCity, Playwright, Allure reporting

•       Design collaboration: Figma

•       Compliance-aware development: familiarity with data privacy frameworks relevant to education (FERPA, COPPA, SOPIPA, NY §2-d)

•       Web/CMS: WordPress (for supporting marketing/blog infrastructure), CloudFront-based routing

•       2+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with exposure to machine learning, NLP, or applied AI projects

•       Proficiency in Python (or similar) and familiarity with common ML/AI libraries and frameworks

•       Experience working with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, or building AI-powered application features

•       Solid understanding of data structures, APIs, and backend system design

•       Comfort working with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)

•       Strong communication skills and eagerness to learn — we're looking for someone coachable who wants active mentorship, not just a hands-off role
