About the role
We're hiring an AI Engineer to help us turn client problems into working software. You'll work directly with founders and operators across industries, figuring out where AI genuinely belongs in their business and shipping it quickly.
You won't be training models from scratch. You'll be choosing the right ones, integrating them well, and making sure they hold up in production.
What you'll do
· Design and build LLM-powered workflows that solve real operational problems for our clients
· Set up evaluation frameworks so we can measure whether what we ship is actually working
· Build retrieval, search, and agentic systems, and know when simpler approaches are the better answer
· Work with non-technical stakeholders to scope what should be built before writing code
· Keep up with new model releases and translate them into practical recommendations for clients
What we're looking for
· 2 to 4 years of engineering experience, with at least one production project involving LLMs or modern AI APIs
· Strong proficiency in Python; comfort with one other language (TypeScript, Go, or similar) is a plus
· Hands-on experience with at least one major model provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) and a working understanding of when to use each
· Familiarity with retrieval, structured outputs, function calling, or agentic patterns
· Clear written communication, since much of our work happens async
· A bias toward shipping over polishing
A note on the stage
Monsoon Labs is in its early days. We launched recently and are working with a small group of clients across India. The work is real, the trajectory is up, and joining now means having genuine influence over the technical direction we take and the team we build.
This role suits someone who enjoys ambiguity, takes ownership, and is energised by building from the ground up rather than slotting into an established system.
What we offer
· Competitive compensation, calibrated to your experience
· Hybrid working from Mumbai, in-person when it matters and flexible otherwise
· Direct exposure to clients and decision-makers from day one
· A small, focused team that values judgment and craft
