Role Overview

As an Area Sales Manager – General Trade, you will be responsible for developing and managing distributor networks, driving secondary sales, expanding retail coverage, and achieving sales targets across your assigned territory. You will work closely with distributors, wholesalers, retailers, and the internal sales team to ensure strong market penetration and brand visibility.

This role is ideal for professionals with experience in FMCG, personal care, skincare, hygiene, or consumer products who are passionate about sales growth and channel development.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

· Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets for the assigned territory.

· Develop and expand General Trade distribution across retail markets.

· Increase product availability, visibility, and market penetration.

· Identify new business opportunities and growth areas.

Distributor Management

· Appoint, onboard, and develop distributors in assigned territories.

· Build strong relationships with distributors to drive secondary sales.

· Monitor distributor inventory, billing, and stock replenishment.

· Ensure effective execution of sales plans through channel partners.

Retail Market Expansion

· Conduct regular market visits to retailers, wholesalers, supermarkets, cosmetic stores, pharmacies, and general trade outlets.

· Expand outlet coverage and improve numeric and weighted distribution.

· Ensure product availability and optimal shelf placement.

· Drive retailer engagement and repeat ordering.

Team Management

· Guide and support Field Sales Officers and Sales Executives.

· Monitor daily field activities and market coverage.

· Coach team members on sales execution and retailer engagement.

· Track productivity and achievement of individual targets.

Market Intelligence

· Monitor competitor pricing, schemes, product launches, and promotional activities.

· Gather retailer and distributor feedback on products and market trends.

· Identify opportunities for new product placements and category expansion.

· Share actionable market insights with management.

Sales Operations & Reporting

· Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports.

· Track primary and secondary sales performance.

· Monitor distributor performance, collections, and inventory.

· Ensure timely reporting through CRM or sales tracking tools.

Required Skills & Qualifications

· Minimum 2 years of experience in FMCG General Trade sales.

· Experience in Personal Care, Hygiene, Skincare, Cosmetics, OTC, or Consumer Goods preferred.

· Strong understanding of distributor management and retail sales.

· Experience handling GT sales channels and territory management.

· Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.

· Ability to travel extensively within assigned territories.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and sales reporting tools.
