Job Title: Area Sales Manager (ASM)

Location : Chennai & Tamil Nadu
CTC: Maximum gross up to 11 LPA
Job Purpose
The Area Sales Manager (ASM) will be responsible for driving primary and secondary sales, strengthening distributor and retailer networks, and expanding market presence for the snacks portfolio across Chennai and Tamil Nadu. The role focuses on volume growth, distribution expansion, and effective team management.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Achieve primary and secondary sales targets for the assigned territory
- Drive market penetration and numeric distribution across GT channels
- Identify new distributors, sub-distributors, and key outlets
- Monitor sales performance, schemes, and market execution
Channel & Distributor Management
- Appoint, manage, and motivate distributors to meet monthly targets
- Ensure healthy stock levels, timely billing, and collections
- Review distributor performance and resolve operational issues
- Ensure proper execution of company trade schemes and promotions
Team Management
- Lead, train, and monitor Sales Officers / Sales Executives
- Set targets, conduct market visits, and provide on-the-job coaching
- Review daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports
- Ensure discipline, productivity, and coverage efficiency of the field team
Market Execution & Visibility
- Ensure strong in-store visibility, merchandising, and POS deployment
- Monitor competitor activities, pricing, and schemes
- Execute new product launches and regional promotions effectively
Reporting & Coordination
- Prepare and submit sales MIS, forecasts, and market feedback
- Coordinate with marketing, supply chain, and accounts teams
- Track outstanding collections and ensure adherence to credit policies
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of FMCG sales, especially snacks / food category
- Hands-on experience in GT distribution and secondary sales
- Excellent distributor and retailer relationship management skills
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and communication abilities
- Proficiency in MS Excel and sales reporting tools
Qualification
- Graduate in any discipline (MBA Sales & Marketing preferred)
Experience
- Minimum 12 years of FMCG sales experience
- Minimum 7 years as ASM / Sr. Sales Officer handling a team in TN
- Mandatory experience in snacks / food / biscuits / confectionery category
Preferred Profile
- Strong market knowledge of Chennai & Tamil Nadu
- Willingness to travel extensively within the territory
- Experience handling multiple distributors and large sales volumes
