Job Title: Architect - Test and Verification Engineering

As an Architect Test and Verification Engineering (Automation), you will architect the quality and safety of healthcare systems by leading the realization and management of product testing and verification throughout the product lifecycle. You will architect and implement advanced automated test solutions, ensuring robust verification coverage, efficiency, and compliance for complex systems. You will provide technical leadership, drive continuous improvement, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, maintainable, and scalable test automation frameworks.

Your challenge:

You are responsible for the realization and management of product testing and verification in product creation and lifecycle maintenance projects, covering every phase from development, manufacturing, operation and maintenance.

You will develop and implement test strategies and automation strategies for systems, subsystems, and parts-level designs, including the definition and review of testable requirements and integrally manage the design, development of automation solutions, its optimization, integration towards product realization.

You will maintain and develop knowledge and expertise resulting in state-of-the-art approaches to serve our customers with the test and verification service proposition.

You will help to deploy best practices throughout the global company by providing training and coaching to development engineers.

Your Role:

  • Define and architect comprehensive test automation strategies for systems, subsystems, and components, optimizing test coverage and reducing manual effort.
  • Guide the selection and adoption of effective automation tools, scripting languages, and frameworks based on system complexity and project requirements.
  • Develop and oversee the creation of reusable, objective, and maintainable automated test protocols and procedures, ensuring coverage of functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Serve as a technical lead within the Test and Verification Engineering team, supporting complex testing challenges and advising on automation strategy for new projects.
  • Lead the development, execution, and reporting of automated tests, including performance, reliability, security, and compliance aspects, based on risk-based strategies.
  • Ensure excellent reporting and documentation of test strategy, test plans, protocols, results, and improvement actions.
  • Review and optimize test designs, test plans, and protocols, ensuring alignment with project objectives, system requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Identify improvement opportunities in test automation and verification propositions develop actionable proposals and plans.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to test engineers and designers, enabling their development in automation best practices.
  • Collaborate with system architects, software architects, development engineers, and stakeholders, Influence product design by identifying potential testability issues and proposing solutions to optimize automated testing methodologies
  • Liaise with test centers, labs, and partners to co-create and integrate test solutions.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships within and beyond the team, including project managers, architects, external labs.
  • Share knowledge and deliver training sessions on test methodologies and tools to the broader engineering team.
  • Manage your activities and services according to good project management practices.
  • Coordinate small teams of test & verification engineers if applicable.

You will be part of

Test and Verification Engineering team within the Quality and Reliability Engineering department of Innovation Engineering, a diverse group of more than 32 technical experts located in the Netherlands and India, supporting complex, innovative projects for Philips businesses globally.

You're the right fit if:

  • You have Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Electrical, Robotics and Automation Engineering or equivalent.
  • 13+ years of experience with minimum 6 years as a Test and Verification lead/architect with significant exposure to test automation in an industrial product R&D environment.
  • In-depth knowledge and a proven track record in applying and implementing concepts, testing methodologies in test automation, verification and test management field.
  • Strong Experience Expected In:
    • LabVIEW, Python.
    • Other platforms/tools for HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop), MIL (Model-in-the-Loop), SIL (Software-in-the-Loop).
    • Industrial automation protocols.
    • Test & measurement hardware.
    • Developing functional testers for systems, modules, PCBA, and components.
    • Selection and adoption of automation tools, scripting languages, and frameworks guided by system complexity and project requirements.
    • Designing, testing, and debugging test automation applications.
  • Professional in testing and verification process, test design, reusable test protocols, and test procedures.
  • Strong analytical thinking, structured approach, and continuous learning mindset.
  • Experience in defining master test plans and executing detailed test plans from system to component level.
  • Experience in Measurement System Analyses (MSA's) and use of test & measurement hardware.
  • Provides guidance, enables development, and mentors junior staff.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and documentation skills.
  • Motivated, self-driven, adaptable to change, and customer-focused.
  • Experience in highly regulated environments (medical device directive preferred).
  • Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) preferred.
  • preferred DfSS green Belt or equal by experience and manufacturing quality control knowledge.
