Architect

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain the payment system architecture, leveraging your hands-on experience and technical expertise.
  • Delve into details on the current system architecture, evaluate, document, propose improvements, align with the core architecture group, and ensure smooth delivery.
  • Serve as the point of contact for the technical teams, collaborating closely with developers, engineers, and product managers to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable solutions.
  • Drive the development of new payment products and features using cloud-native architectures, such as Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and messaging systems like Kafka.
  • Actively promote technology evangelism by staying up-to-date with emerging trends, evaluating new tools and frameworks, and advocating for their adoption when appropriate.
  • Foster a collaborative environment by working closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, gather feedback, and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Conduct code reviews and system testing, and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices to maintain code quality and integrity.
  • Monitor and analyse system performance using tools like Grafana, Splunk, and Kibana, proactively identifying areas for improvement and taking necessary actions.
  • Serve as a mentor, providing technical guidance and support to junior team members, promoting their growth and development.
  • Act as a technology evangelist within the organisation, sharing knowledge and best practices and encouraging the adoption of new technologies and methodologies.

The Ideal Candidate

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven hands-on experience as a Payment System Architect or similar role, with a track record of successfully delivering complex payment system solutions.
  • Knowledge of Payment Systems on some or all these topics like payment authorisation, Card acceptance, Acquiring, Reconciliation, Payment Gateway, Vault, Alternative modes of payment, Wallets, Card Issuance etc
  • Strong technical proficiency in C++ programming language, with the ability to port existing C++ technologies to the Azure cloud platform.
  • Extensive experience with cloud-native architectures and technologies, such as Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, messaging systems like Kafka, and cloud platforms like Azure.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, serving as a point of contact for technical discussions and requirements gathering.
  • Passion for technology evangelism, staying updated with industry trends, and driving innovation within the organisation.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools like Grafana, Splunk, and Kibana to ensure system performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Prior experience in the financial industry or payment processing domain is highly desirable.

AI / ML Skills & Responsibilities (Nice To Have)

  • Identify and architect AI/ML use cases across fraud detection, reconciliation automation, chargeback triage and payment acceptance optimization.
  • Build GenAI/RAG solutions using Azure OpenAI and Azure AI Search.
  • Implement real-time ML pipelines (streaming features, low-latency inference).
  • Ensure Responsible AI compliance (AI Inventory registration, explainability, guardrails).
  • Apply MLOps practices: model versioning, CI/CD, monitoring and rollback.
  • Hands-on ML skills: classification, anomaly detection, forecasting and document intelligence.

  • Technical excellence: Being technically decisive and suggesting options, ensuring solutions while keeping security, stability & scalability in view and building technology roadmap for product or product streams.
  • Technical Leadership: Being curious, however, being open to new ideas. Putting forward practical viewpoints and abstracting the information based on the target audience. Technical Blogging.
  • AI strategy & stakeholder influence: translate business goals into a prioritized AI roadmap for payments, aligned with AI streams and the Amadeus AI Office direction; evangelize value while managing change and upskilling.
  • Knowledge sharing and Collaboration: Building solutions with Product Owners, Managers and Customers. Can convince on the technical solution leading to business goals and consistently sharing expertise, teaching concepts and getting feedback.
  • Crossfunctional collaboration: partner with Fraud/Risk Ops, Recon Ops, Product, and Platform teams to ship secure, compliant, and costefficient AI featuresleveraging shared services offered by the enterprise GenAI platform.
  • Functional Expertise: Understand the underlying functional domain to align solutions to a broader level. Ability to productise business requirements. Creating a business case for a technical roadmap
  • Innovation: Ability to suggest more straightforward and cost-efficient alternatives. Being able to motivate techies and peer groups to generate ideas. Building POCs and prototypes ground up.
  • Contribution to communities: Keeping up to date with Industry technology evolution and trends. Building the technical communities and active assistance in terms of documentation, POCs, Prototypes, Blogs, Forums, Seminars etc
  • Continuous Self-improvement: Showcasing technical expertise, being viewed as an expert in the area, and being able to go deep when needed. Technical evangelism is the keythe ability to develop Intellectual property.
  • Influencing and Collaboration: Building strong peer groups across organisations to share information at the right abstraction level and influencing internal and external customers in technical discussions. Possesses needed convincing ability. Ability to resolve conflicts in technical discussions and decisions.
  • Communication: Communicates well via documents, presentations, forums, webinars, seminars, and blogs. Active listener, brings their points forward, ability to hold audience's attention, facilitates open discussions.
  • Ethics & compliance by design: champion AI safety, fairness, explainability, and human oversight; ensure every project is registered and reviewed according to the AI Policy and operating model.
