Applied Physics Specialist (AI Training)
About The Role
What if your expertise in quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, and thermodynamics could directly shape how AI understands the physical world We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to stress-test cutting-edge Large Language Models — exposing the gaps in their physical reasoning and helping ensure they respect the fundamental laws that govern reality.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for researchers and scientists who want to do intellectually rigorous work on their own schedule. No prior AI experience required — just deep domain expertise and a sharp, uncompromising mind.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design Advanced Problems — Craft PhD qualifying exam-level physics problems that demand multi-step logical reasoning, rigorous mathematical derivation, and mastery of first principles
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write definitive, step-by-step golden responses with flawless physical constants, unit conversions, and airtight logical flow
- Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated proofs and simulations for physical consistency, identifying where models hallucinate physics that violates conservation laws or boundary conditions
- Refine Model Behaviour — Provide structured, expert feedback that helps AI systems develop genuine physics-informed reasoning across topics like quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, and statistical mechanics
- Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule
Who You Are
- Hold a PhD (completed or near completion) in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
- Deep mastery across the core pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
- Exceptionally clear and precise scientific writer — you can articulate complex derivations in structured, accessible English
- Obsessively detail-oriented when it comes to units, notation, and the logical integrity of a proof
- Self-motivated and consistent when working independently
- No prior AI or tech experience required
Nice to Have
- Experience with data annotation, scientific dataset evaluation, or quality assurance systems
- Proficiency with computational tools such as Python (NumPy/SciPy), MATLAB, or COMSOL
- Background in research, academia, or applied physics industries
- Familiarity with AI tools or language model outputs as an end user
