We are seeking a PI System Engineer to support and enhance the refinery's real-time data infrastructure built on the AVEVA PI System (formerly OSIsoft PI).
This role is critical in ensuring high availability, integrity, and usability of operational data across refinery systems, enabling real-time monitoring, analytics, and decision-making across OT and IT environments.
You will operate within a Global Capability Center (GCC), working closely with UK refinery based operations, process engineers, and digital teams.
Job Role:
- Ensure continuous availability and health of PI Data Archive, AF Server, PI Vision, and PI Interfaces. Provide L2/L3 support for the same
- Ensure strict control over PI tag creation, ensuring adherence to naming standards, avoiding duplication, and performing periodic tag rationalization to optimize system performance and data usability
- Monitor system performance and proactively resolve issues impacting data flow and system stability
- Ensure vulnerability mitigations with regular patch upgrades
- Perform routine system health checks and capacity monitoring
- Monitor and maintain data interfaces including OPC DA/HDA, UFL, and RDBMS connectors
- Configure and deploy new interfaces for onboarding additional data sources
- Troubleshoot data gaps, latency issues, and communication failures and Perform data backfilling where applicable to ensure historical continuity
- Create, maintain, and optimize AF hierarchies and templates, EF & Notifications in alignment with business needs.
- Manage lifecycle of PI tags (creation, deletion, and rationalization)
- Maintain data quality, consistency, and governance standards
- Manage user access and permissions across PI components and rationalize the usage. Conduct quarterly user access audits
- Ensure compliance with security policies and Active Directory integration
- Awareness of IT/OT cybersecurity concepts
In addition to the AVEVA PI suite, candidate would need to provide L2/L3 support for refinery applications such as:
- AVEVA Spiral
- Sigmafine
- Maron OAS
- Bently Nevada System1
Good to have skills:
SQL, Python, WebAPI, Powershell, Oracle, Data/Machine Analytics
Responsibilities include:
- Client tool installation and configuration
- User access management. Conduct regular audits in coordination with the business.
- Basic troubleshooting and vendor coordination.
- Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience with AVEVA PI System (OSIsoft PI)
- Strong understanding of PI Data Archive, AF, Vision, and Interfaces
- Experience with OPC, UFL, and RDBMS integrations
- Experience in L2/L3 support activities around AVEVA PI
- AVEVA PI system certifications
- Exposure to OT systems such as SCADA, DCS, or historians
Candidates with a chemical engineering background and experience in the Oil & Gas Industry with knowledge around Predictive maintenance will be preferred.
