Job Description Application Engineer / Proposal Engineer
Role Overview
The ATE Proposal Preparation team is responsible for preparing high-quality, technically sound, and commercially competitive proposals for Automated Test Equipment (ATE) solutions across domains such as Automotive, 2G,3G,4G and 5G/Telecom, and Industrial Electronics. The role involves close collaboration with Sales, Engineering, and Project Management teams to deliver accurate cost estimates, technical write-ups, and compliance matrices in line with customer requirements and organizational strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Proposal Development
o Analyze RFPs/RFQs, customer specifications, and compliance documents.
o Define ATE solution architecture (hardware, software, interfaces, and instrumentation).
o Prepare detailed technical write-ups, system block diagrams, and compliance matrices.
o Draft proposals, quotations, and supporting documents in coordination with business teams.
Costing & Estimation
o Work with engineering to estimate BOM, licensing, engineering effort, and services.
o Create cost models, price-to-win strategies, and margin calculations.
o Ensure proposals are both technically feasible and commercially viable.
Collaboration & Coordination
o Collaborate with Sales/Business Development to tailor solutions to customer needs.
o Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Design, Integration, Supply Chain, Quality) for inputs.
o Present solutions to internal stakeholders and support customer clarifications.
Process & Documentation
o Maintain proposal templates, documentation standards, and bid libraries.
o Ensure adherence to company proposal processes and quality standards.
o Track proposal status, risks, and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education:
o Bachelor's/Master's in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, or related Engineering field.
Technical Competence:
o Strong understanding of ATE architecture, PXI/LXI/GPIB-based instruments, NI/LabVIEW/TestStand or similar platforms.
o Knowledge of system integration, test automation, and measurement principles.
Business & Proposal Skills:
o Experience in preparing technical and commercial proposals (preferred 24 years).
o Ability to interpret technical requirements into feasible ATE solutions.
o Strong documentation, estimation, and cost modeling skills.
o Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
Soft Skills:
o Detail-oriented with strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
o Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple proposals simultaneously.
o Team player with cross-functional coordination experience.
Optional / Preferred
Exposure to tools like MS Project, Jira, or proposal management tools.
Experience with NI PXI/Keysight/Vector ATE platforms.
Prior proposal exposure in government/defense tenders.
