Role Summary -

The Assistant Engineer – BUM & NMS is responsible for supporting the operation, monitoring, and reliability of backup systems and network infrastructure across control centres (CC) and substations (SS). The role ensures data protection, system availability, and continuous monitoring of critical infrastructure, contributing to the stability and resilience of the OT cybersecurity environment.

Working under senior engineers, the role supports backup management, network monitoring, alert handling, and infrastructure health tracking, ensuring adherence to operational procedures and service levels.

Key Responsibilities -

Backup Management Operations (BUM) -

• Assist in deployment, configuration, and monitoring of backup management systems for critical servers and OT assets.

• Monitor backup jobs and ensure successful execution, validation, and reporting of backup status.

• Support periodic backup restoration testing to ensure data recoverability.

• Maintain backup schedules, logs, and compliance with data retention policies.

• Assist in troubleshooting backup failures and coordinating issue resolution.

Network Monitoring (NMS – CC & SS) -

• Monitor network performance and availability across control centres and substations using NMS tools.

• Track health and status of network devices such as switches, routers, firewalls, and communication links.

• Respond to alerts related to network outages, performance degradation, and threshold breaches.

• Support initial troubleshooting and escalate critical issues to senior engineers.

Infrastructure Monitoring & Incident Support -

• Monitor dashboards for system availability, performance, and infrastructure health.

• Assist in identifying anomalies and supporting incident resolution processes.

• Maintain logs of incidents, alerts, and corrective actions.

Reporting & Documentation -

• Maintain operational records for backup performance, network availability, and incidents.

• Assist in preparation of periodic reports and compliance documentation.

• Update configuration records and system documentation.

Coordination & Operational Support -

• Coordinate with engineering teams during maintenance, upgrades, and deployments.

• Support testing and commissioning activities where monitoring and backup systems are involved.

• Ensure adherence to SOPs, SLAs, and operational guidelines.

Experience -

• 2–4 years experience in system administration, infrastructure monitoring, or IT operations.

• Experience with backup solutions and network monitoring tools preferred.

• Exposure to multi-site environments or critical infrastructure systems is an advantage.

Skills -

Qualification -

Diploma or B.E / B.Tech / Graduate in Information Technology, Networking, or related field.
