About the Role
We are seeking a skilled GE Smallworld Magik Developer to design, build, and maintain our enterprise geospatial applications. You will write custom Magik code, manage spatial databases, and integrate Smallworld GIS with external enterprise systems to support utility and telecommunications networks.
Responsibilities
- Application Development: Design and write custom Magik code to extend GE Smallworld Core Spatial Technology platforms.
- Data Modeling: Create and configure objects, physical models, and network topologies within the Version Managed Data Store (VMDS).
- System Integration: Integrate Smallworld applications with external corporate IT systems using FME, Java, Oracle, or REST APIs.
- Data Migration: Build and execute data migration scripts to import external spatial data into the Smallworld environment.
- Upgrades & Maintenance: Perform version upgrades, apply software patches, and debug performance bottlenecks in existing Magik codebases.
- Technical Documentation: Author design specifications, data model diagrams, and deployment guides for internal teams.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, GIS, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 2+ years of professional hands-on development experience strictly using GE Smallworld Magik.
Required Skills
- Core Language: Proficient in Magik programming (methods, exemplars, vectors, and collections).
- GIS Platform: Deep knowledge of GE Smallworld Office Suites (Electric, Gas, Water, or PNI/FTTH for Telecom).
- Database Management: Experience with VMDS database administration, alternatives, and conflicts resolution.
- Modern Tooling: Familiarity with Swarm, Magik Development Tools (MDT), or VS Code Magik extensions.
- Secondary Languages: Basic understanding of Java, Python, or SQL for integration tasks.
