Introduction
As a Healthcare Interoperability Consultant, you will help drive IBM's mission of transforming clinical data exchange across the healthcare ecosystem. You will work directly with provider and payer organizations to onboard EMRs, HIEs, validate clinical documents, and ensure seamless interoperability between disparate systems. Your expertise in HL7, CCDA, FHIR and healthcare data standards will enable accurate, reliable, and analytics-ready clinical information flowpowering downstream functions. Your Role And Responsibilities
- Lead the onboarding, integration, and validation of provider EMRs, HIEs and clinical document feeds into payer interoperability platforms.
- Validate and troubleshoot CCDA 2.1 documents and related interoperability transactions.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and drive resolution of ingestion failures across CCDA and XML-based message flows.
- Ensure that clinical data delivered to payer systems is accurate, complete, and analytics-ready.
- Collaborate with payer integration and data engineering teams to ensure seamless end-to-end data flow.
- Review provider onboarding packages, test files, and metadata to ensure compliance with interoperability standards (CCDA 2.1).
- Support continuous improvement of interoperability pipelines, monitoring dashboards, and validation frameworks.

Required Technical And Professional Expertise
- Strong expertise in CCDA 2.1 structure, validation, and clinical document troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience interpreting and validating XML/XSD, including templateId analysis, section/entry validation, and schema-level debugging.
- Solid understanding of healthcare vocabularies and code systems such as LOINC, SNOMED CT, RxNorm, ICD-10, and their role in mapping clinical content.
- Experience with EMR/EHR integration workflows (Epic, Cerner, Allscripts, Meditech, etc.) and provider onboarding activities.
- Ability to analyze ingestion errors across interoperability ecosystems and deliver RCA, remediation plans, and quality checks.
- Working knowledge of FHIR API concepts (resources, profiles, JSON/XML) and its role in emerging clinical data exchange workflows (preferred).
- Familiarity with payer-side use cases and clinical data enrichment pipelines
Preferred Technical And Professional Experience
- Experience working with integration engines (Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, Mirth), healthcare middleware, or interoperability microservices.
- Exposure to payer data models, Snowflake-based ingestion platforms, or quality-reporting systems (preferred).
- Knowledge of Agile delivery processes for healthcare data platforms.
- Experience participating in or supporting clinical data onboarding programs, EMPI matching workflows, or CCDA certification/compliance testing
