Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced API Integration Engineer with strong expertise in Apigee and Node.js to design, develop, and manage secure, scalable API solutions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building backend services using Node.js and exposing them through Apigee with proper security, traffic management, and governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and manage API proxies in Apigee to securely expose Node.js backend services
- Build and maintain scalable RESTful APIs using Node.js (Express.js / NestJS) following clean architecture principles
- Implement API integration between systems using Node.js services, ensuring reliability and performance
- Configure Apigee policies for security (OAuth2, JWT, API keys), traffic management (rate limiting, quota, spike arrest), and caching
- Handle request/response transformations, error handling, and routing logic within Apigee proxies
- Deploy and manage Node.js services on cloud platforms (preferably GCP – Cloud Run / App Engine) and integrate with Apigee
- Monitor API usage, performance, and errors using Apigee analytics and logging, and implement necessary optimizations
- Implement structured logging and auditing for API transactions across gateway and backend layers
- Collaborate with frontend, QA, and business teams to ensure end-to-end API functionality and workflow validation
- Follow API governance standards, versioning strategies, and best practices for scalable integrations
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Apigee (API proxy development, policies, deployments)
- Strong experience in Node.js with frameworks like Express.js or NestJS
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design and integration patterns
- Experience implementing authentication and authorization (OAuth2, JWT, API keys)
- Knowledge of traffic management, caching, and performance optimization in API gateways
- Experience with logging, monitoring, and debugging API flows
- Familiarity with GCP services and deploying Node.js applications in cloud environments
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments
Good to Have
- Experience with microservices architecture
- Exposure to event-driven systems (Pub/Sub, Kafka)
- Knowledge of Docker and containerized deployments
- Experience with API documentation tools (OpenAPI / Swagger)
