THE ROLE
The ITX resource shall be responsible for efficient management of all Indirect tax matters in APAC (Japan, Thailand, India, China, Australia and New Zealand) including, tax compliance, planning, risk management and optimization activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Indirect Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee and review monthly / quarterly indirect tax filings across APAC (e.g., GST, VAT, Consumption Tax).
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of indirect tax returns, reconciliations, and related statutory reporting.
- Manage indirect tax data quality and work closely with shared service centers or external service providers.
- Monitor tax payments and ensure full compliance with local deadlines and requirements.
- Provide monthly update to global Indirect Tax on progress, challenges and mitigation plans.
B. Advisory & Business Support
- Provide indirect tax advisory to business units on new products, supply chain flows, and commercial transactions.
- Assess indirect tax implications of cross-border sales, e-commerce, if applicable.
- Support contract reviews for tax clauses, and invoicing requirements.
- Partner with legal, procurement, logistics, and commercial teams on indirect tax-related matters.
- Work closely with finance and cross functional team members (like Customs) to support broader indirect tax strategy and compliance efforts.
C. Risk management and audits
- Support indirect tax audits and inquiries from regional tax authorities.
- Identify and mitigate indirect tax risks; recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain proper tax documentation, audit trails, and compliance frameworks.
- Review tax controls, advise on remedial measures and implement process improvements.
D. Tax planning and optimization
- Drive regional tax optimization strategies and VAT refunds / cashflow improvements.
- Analyse opportunities to streamline indirect tax processes across APAC.
- Support M&A, restructuring, and business expansion projects from an indirect tax perspective.
- Review P&Ls of key markets and identify optimization opportunities, related to post-sale rebates / discounts, input VAT / GST deductions, foreign VAT recovery, clean-up of dormant tax codes, etc.
- Contribute on leading projects related to global indirect tax, including new product rollouts, system implementations, new business lanes, and process changes.
E. Systems, Process Improvement & Automation
- Partner with finance transformation teams to optimize tax reporting systems (tax engines, SAP, etc.).
- Enhance indirect tax processes, including automation, data accuracy, and controls.
- Implement tax technology tools to improve compliance efficiency.
F. Regulatory Monitoring
- Monitor changes in APAC indirect tax rules and assess impacts on business;
- To act as the bridge between global Indirect tax, local business and IT teams for implementation of indirect tax-related changes.
- Develop internal guidance and conduct training for finance and business (AP, AR, others) teams.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field. A professional certification in taxation or accounting (e.g., CPA, CA, CFA,) is preferred.
- The candidate should have around 6 to 8 years of Indirect tax working knowledge in APAC markets; experience with Big 4 and FMCG (beauty industry) company shall be a plus.
- Strong knowledge of indirect tax regulations and reporting requirements across APAC countries.
- Proficiency with tax ERP systems like SAP needed and working knowledge will be plus.
- Experience of managing tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
