Job Description

Position: Android Developer (TK36FT RM 4308)

MANDATORY SKILLS : AAOS, AOSP, Kotlin, Java, Android Framework, IPC/Binder, AIDL, VHAL/HAL, Android SDK, Log Analysis & Debugging.

PREFERRED SKILLS : C++, Automotive Infotainment (IVI), CAN/SOME-IP/MQTT, Agile, DevOps, CTS/VTS, Middleware, Audio/Media/Connectivity.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Android Developer with strong expertise in Android Automotive OS (AAOS), AOSP, Kotlin, and Java to develop next-generation in-vehicle infotainment and connected vehicle solutions for the VW ID.S ecosystem. The candidate will be responsible for developing, customizing, integrating, and optimizing Android Automotive applications and framework components within an automotive environment. This aligns with internal automotive Android/AOSP requirements emphasizing AAOS, VHAL, HAL, Android Framework, debugging, and vehicle integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Android Automotive applications and system-level components using Kotlin and Java.
  • Customize and enhance AOSP components to support automotive-specific requirements.
  • Implement and optimize Vehicle HAL (VHAL) and vehicle service integrations with ECUs and sensors.
  • Analyze, debug, and resolve issues using Android logs, bug reports, ANRs, tombstones, and diagnostic tools.
  • Work on Android Framework components, IPC/Binder, Services, Broadcast Receivers, and AIDL-based communication.
  • Integrate and validate Android applications across multiple vehicle platforms, brands, and markets.
  • Collaborate with global stakeholders, architects, QA teams, and product owners for feature delivery and issue resolution.
  • Ensure software quality, performance, stability, and compliance with automotive standards.

Mandatory Skills

  • 3+ years of Android development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Java.
  • Experience with Android Automotive OS (AAOS) and AOSP.
  • Hands-on experience with Android Framework, IPC/Binder, Services, Broadcast Receivers, and AIDL.
  • Strong knowledge of Vehicle HAL (VHAL)/HAL and vehicle integration concepts.
  • Expertise in Android debugging, log analysis, bug reports, and performance optimization.
  • Experience working on embedded or low-memory Android environments.
  • Good understanding of Android SDK and application lifecycle.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

  • C++ development experience.
  • Automotive Infotainment (IVI), Digital Cockpit, or Connected Vehicle experience.
  • Knowledge of CAN, SOME/IP, MQTT, or automotive communication protocols.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum and DevOps practices.
  • Exposure to CTS/VTS validation and Android compliance testing.
  • Experience with Audio, Media, Connectivity, Graphics, Projection, or Middleware development.
