Role Purpose:
The Strategy & Corporate Development team partners directly with the CEO, CFO, and business unit leaders to shape Pine Labs most important strategic and capital decisions. The team operates across all of Pine Labs businesses - Issuing & Prepaid, Online (Shopflo, Plural), Offline Acquiring, Credit, and International (SEA, MEA, ANZ, US). We are hiring an Analyst to join this team. You will own workstreams across M&A, board and leadership materials, market entry, and special strategic projects. The role offers unusually broad exposure across geographies and business lines, with a direct line of sight to senior leadership and the board.
This is a pre-MBA role, ideally suited for someone looking to build a strong foundation in fintech strategy and corporate development before pursuing an MBA at a top global program. Our outgoing analyst is heading to a top US MBA after 4 years on the team - a path the role has consistently set up.
Responsibilities we entrust you with:
- M&A and inorganic growth: Source, evaluate, and execute acquisitions, minority investments, and strategic partnerships across Pine Labs businesses. This includes industry mapping, target screening, financial modelling, valuation, due diligence coordination, and supporting deal documentation through to close.
- Board and leadership materials: Build board decks and CEO/CFO presentations. Translate complex business performance and strategic choices into clear narratives backed by tight numbers.
- Strategic initiatives across BUs: Partner with business unit leaders on priority initiatives — go-to-market strategy, new product launches, geographic expansion, pricing, monetization, and competitive response. Recent examples include AI-led checkout, Issuing platform expansion, and cross-border opportunities across SEA and MEA.
- Market sizing and business cases: Build operating models, unit economics, market sizing, and scenario analyses to support business cases and capital allocation decisions.
- Market & competitive intelligence: Maintain a current, structured view of the payments, issuing, checkout, and commerce landscape across India, SEA, MEA, and ANZ. Track competitors, regulatory shifts (RBI, MAS, CBUAE, etc.), and M&A activity in the sector.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Finance, Legal, Product, BU heads, and external advisors (bankers, lawyers, consultants) to drive projects to closure.
What matters in this role:
- 2–4 years of pre-MBA experience in investment banking, top-tier management consulting, private equity / venture capital, equity research, or a strategy / corporate development team at a high-growth company. Fintech, payments, or e-commerce exposure is a strong plus, but not mandatory.
- Bachelor's degree from a top-tier institution (IITs, NITs, BITS, top commerce/economics colleges, or international equivalents). CA, CFA, or equivalent rigour is welcome but not required.
- Strong financial modelling and valuation skills - three-statement modelling, DCF, comparable, precedent transactions, and basic LBO frameworks.
- Excellent storytelling and presentation skills - able to take a messy problem, structure it, and communicate it on a few crisp slides to a senior audience.
- Sharp commercial instinct - you don't just build the model, you have a clear point of view on what it means and what to do next.
- High ownership and comfort with ambiguity - able to juggle multiple workstreams across business units, geographies, and stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication; comfort engaging with senior leaders, board members, and external advisors.
