Company Overview

At Opus, we grow together. Our team of bold thinkers and passionate doers is united by a shared mission to tackle meaningful challenges. Our culture of trust and belonging has earned us the Great Place to Work certification in four countries, based entirely on team feedback. It reflects our commitment to fairness, pride credibility and camaraderie, and reinforces what we believe: when people feel valued, they do their best work.

About the Role

The Deputy MLRO / AML Compliance Manager supports the MLRO in maintaining an effective, risk-based AML/ATF and sanctions compliance framework for Opus. The role provides day-to-day 2nd line oversight of client and investor due diligence, enhanced due diligence, ongoing monitoring, sanctions screening, suspicious activity escalation, training, record-keeping, and management information, while preserving independence from 1st line operational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the MLRO in implementing and maintaining AML/ATF policies, procedures, systems and controls consistent with Bermuda regulatory expectations and the administrator's financial crime risk profile.
  • Provide independent 2nd line review and challenge over client, fund and investor onboarding, including CDD, EDD, beneficial ownership, source of funds, source of wealth, PEP, jurisdictional and intermediary risk considerations.
  • Manage and triage AML/ATF and sanctions escalations from the 1st line, ensuring matters are assessed, documented, escalated and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Assist the MLRO with suspicious activity assessment and internal reporting processes, including preparation of case analysis and documentation to support any decision to report to the appropriate authority.
  • Oversee ongoing monitoring and periodic review activity, including risk-rating changes, trigger events, overdue reviews, exceptions, remediation actions and higher-risk relationships.
  • Support sanctions screening governance, including escalation standards, potential match review, disposition quality, list management oversight and reporting or freezing escalation where applicable.
  • Prepare AML/ATF management information for the MLRO, senior management and board or committee reporting, including key risks, issues, breaches, SAR-related metrics, sanctions matters, training completion, testing results and remediation status.
  • Coordinate AML/ATF training and awareness activity, ensuring role-based training is delivered, completion is monitored and effectiveness is reviewed.
  • Maintain appropriate records of AML/ATF approvals, escalations, risk assessments, monitoring outcomes, training, testing, breaches and remediation in line with record-keeping requirements.
  • Deputise for the MLRO when required, including acting as an escalation point and supporting regulatory engagement, while ensuring significant matters remain subject to appropriate MLRO and governance oversight.

Key Qualifications and Reporting Line

The role should be held by an appropriately senior and experienced AML/ATF professional with sufficient authority, access to information, independence and resources to provide effective challenge. The Deputy MLRO / AML Compliance Manager should report to the MLRO for functional AML/ATF matters, have access to senior management and relevant governance forums, and avoid conflicts created by direct ownership of 1st line client acceptance or processing activity.
