- Title: AI Training Specialist (Biology) - Remote
- Engagement: Hourly contract (independent contractor)
- Location: Remote candidates based in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Europe, Singapore, Dubai, or Australia who are legally able to work as independent contractors in their jurisdiction.
About the Role
An AI research and deployment organization is seeking a Biology subject matter expert to support the development and evaluation of advanced AI systems. This role focuses on designing high-quality Biology problems used to train and assess large language models.
The position requires transforming complex, often diagram-based biological concepts into precise, self-contained, text-only problems with clear solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design upper-undergraduate and graduate-level Biology problems with fully worked solutions
- Convert diagram-heavy or multi-part biological questions into text-only, solvable formats
- Ensure scientific accuracy and rigor across all problems and solutions
- Create challenging tasks that evaluate AI reasoning and identify model limitations
- Review and assess AI-generated responses for correctness and reasoning quality
- Refine and calibrate questions to meet defined difficulty standards
- Review peer-created tasks for clarity, accuracy, and consistency
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain quality across large task batches
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Biology or closely related field
- Strong upper-undergraduate or graduate-level subject mastery
- Fluent written English with precise scientific communication skills
- Experience with teaching, grading, research, or analytical scientific work
- Strong attention to detail and consistency in terminology
- Interest in AI model evaluation and training methodologies
Biology Domain Expertise
Applicants should demonstrate strength in one or more of the following:
- Molecular Biology
- Cell Biology
- Genetics & Genomics
- Biochemistry
- Physiology
- Ecology or Systems Biology
Additional strengths:
- Translating pathways, gene regulation mechanisms, and experimental setups into structured text
- Quantitative or semi-quantitative biology (e.g., enzyme kinetics, growth rates, genetic probabilities)
Engagement Details
- Contract Type: Independent Contractor
- Duration: 2 months (possibility of extension)
- Commitment: 40 hours per week
- Required overlap: Minimum 4 hours with Pacific Time (PST)
- Location Eligibility: India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Kenya, Mexico, Ghana, Nigeria, Turkey
- Work Environment: Fully remote
