What we absolutely dont want

Read this before you apply. If any of the below is you, please don't.

•     A resume that's 90% Python and 10% everything else — we need someone who moves across the stack, not a Python purist

•     An instinct to build an NLP model, a custom classifier, or your own AI system from scratch — we're not doing that here

•     The belief that AI engineering means training models — it doesn't, not in this seat

•     A preference for working in isolation on research-y side quests instead of shipping something a real client uses tomorrow

•     A habit of wanting to tweak nothing and reinvent everything the right way — we don't have time for that, and neither does the business

•     Anyone who identifies primarily as an ML researcher rather than a production engineer

We've hired for this role before and gotten flooded with strong Python-only, build-it-from-scratch candidates who were the wrong fit on day one. Telling you this upfront saves both of us a bad three months.

Roles & Responsibilities

•     Take existing, proven models and APIs and adapt them precisely for Specter's use case — reliably, cheaply, fast

•     Apply off-the-shelf intelligence with real engineering discipline — this is production work, not a research project

•     Call models through Node, structure prompts, and get consistent, structured output back

•     Design for caching of model responses by default, not as an afterthought

•     Think about the cost of every API call before writing it, not after the bill arrives

•     Work across the stack (Node + Redis) rather than staying siloed in Python

•     Ship features that real enterprise clients use — visible in production within days, not quarters

•     Work directly with the founding team, with no layers of management in between

Required Skills

•     Node + Redis basics — comfortable working inside the stack, not learning it from zero

•     Model calling, not model building — prompt structuring and reliable structured output

•     Caching awareness and the instinct to design for it

•     Cost-optimisation instinct for every API call

•     Genuine prompt engineering expertise — reliable, repeatable production outputs, not casual ChatGPT use

•     Tooling fluency — function calling, agent frameworks, vector stores

•     Working RAG and Python knowledge — enough to be dangerous, not your entire identity

Eligibility Criteria

•     1–2 years of professional experience, having shipped something real

•     Comfortable with application over invention — solving a narrow, high-stakes problem with the best existing tools

•     Willing to work hands-on in a small, fast-moving founding team environment

Work Schedule

•     Full-time, on-site role — 5 days a week

•     Working hours: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Tentative Joining Date

2–4 days upon selection

The first three months from the date of joining will be a probationary period, following which the role will be confirmed as permanent.
