About the role

We are looking for an AI Engineer to help build and improve voice-agent systems used for long survey operations.

You will work on conversational design, platform integration, evaluation, and tuning, with a strong focus on how the agent performs in real-world outboud/inboud. You will work closely with the engineering and business teams to improve the system and prepare it for new surveys.

What you will do

• Turn survey questionnaires into voice conversations, including natural question wording, branching and skip logic, follow-up questions, clarifications, and rules for when a call should be handed off to a human.

• Integrate the voice-agent platform with our telephony systems, application consoles, and data stores using APIs and webhooks, including live transfer to human agents.

• Build and maintain an evaluation framework with test call suites, transcript-based scoring, completion and break-off metrics, and comparisons between agent-collected and interviewer-collected responses.

• Configure and tune the agent for each new survey and determine whether it meets the agreed criteria for going live.

• Monitor live calls and transcripts to identify issues such as misunderstood responses, incorrect branching, repeated loops, failed handoffs, and answering-machine detection problems.

• Investigate failure patterns and improve prompts, conversation logic, configuration, and evaluation criteria to address them.

• Build anomaly and quality reports that help the client's analysts identify calls or responses that require attention.

• Document evaluation methods, tuning decisions, and proven approaches so that the process becomes repeatable across surveys.

Minimum qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, ML engineering, or a closely related technical role, including at least 2 years building LLM or conversational AI systems in production.

• Hands-on experience with at least one voice or speech technology, such as ASR, TTS, a voice-agent platform, or a telephony media stream.

• Strong Python skills and solid experience working with REST APIs and webhooks.

• Experience designing and running evaluations for language-model or conversational AI systems, not just building the systems themselves.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate production behavior using transcripts, logs, metrics, and data.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with survey research, market research, or CATI operations.

• Experience with telephony technologies or contact-center platforms, such as Twilio, SIP, or WebRTC.

• Familiarity with US calling requirements, including consent, calling windows, do-not-call rules, and answering-machine handling.

• Experience using SQL or pandas for analysis of model or call performance.
