The Opportunity
This is a hands-on role focused on designing, building, and deploying AI-powered features that enhance document creation, content management, knowledge retrieval, workflow automation, and intelligent decision support.
You'll work closely with engineering, product, UX, and domain experts to transform complex datasets and business processes into practical AI solutions. The environment is cloud-native and AWS-focused, providing an opportunity to work with modern AI architectures, large language models, retrieval systems, and enterprise-grade AI applications.
Key Responsibilities
AI Product Development
- Design, build, and enhance AI-powered product capabilities.
- Develop practical AI features that improve productivity, automation, and user outcomes.
- Translate business requirements into scalable AI solutions.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities to create business value.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to integrate AI into core workflows.
Document Automation & Content Generation
- Develop AI-assisted document creation and content generation capabilities.
- Build intelligent document assembly and authoring workflows.
- Support automated summarisation, classification, extraction, and content recommendations.
- Create frameworks that maintain structure, terminology, traceability, and consistency.
- Enable human-in-the-loop review and approval processes for AI-generated outputs.
Retrieval-Augmented Generation & Knowledge Systems
- Design and implement RAG solutions using structured and unstructured data sources.
- Develop semantic search, knowledge retrieval, and evidence-based response systems.
- Work with embeddings, vector databases, indexing strategies, and search architectures.
- Implement source attribution, citation tracking, and traceable AI outputs.
- Ensure secure and efficient use of enterprise data within AI applications.
AI Governance, Safety & Quality
- Design guardrails and controls for safe AI adoption.
- Implement validation frameworks, confidence scoring, and review mechanisms.
- Develop strategies to reduce hallucinations and improve factual accuracy.
- Support testing, evaluation, monitoring, and continuous optimisation of AI systems.
- Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure responsible AI usage.
AWS-Native AI Engineering
- Build AI services using modern AWS cloud architecture and services.
- Develop scalable APIs, integrations, orchestration workflows, and serverless solutions.
- Support deployment, observability, monitoring, and operational readiness.
- Contribute to secure, resilient, and cost-effective AI infrastructure.
- Ensure AI services are production-ready and maintainable.
Engineering Collaboration
- Work closely with software engineers on AI services, APIs, and integrations.
- Write clean, maintainable, and testable code.
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical planning.
- Build prototypes, proofs of concept, and production-grade solutions.
- Document architectures, prompts, evaluation methodologies, and operational procedures.
Required Skills & Experience
- Commercial experience in AI Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience building AI-powered products, LLM applications, agents, RAG solutions, document automation, or workflow automation platforms.
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Experience working with APIs, structured data, document repositories, search platforms, and integration frameworks.
- Understanding of prompt engineering, model evaluation, context management, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
- Experience implementing AI guardrails, validation mechanisms, and quality controls.
- Familiarity with cloud-native development and AWS environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex requirements into scalable solutions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with AWS AI and data services such as Bedrock, SageMaker, Textract, OpenSearch, Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, and related technologies.
- Experience integrating models from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS, or open-source ecosystems.
- Knowledge of vector databases, embeddings, semantic search, hybrid search, and retrieval evaluation techniques.
- Experience designing AI testing frameworks, monitoring solutions, and performance evaluation processes.
- Understanding of enterprise AI governance, privacy, security, and compliance requirements.
- Experience within regulated sectors such as life sciences, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, compliance, or financial services.
- Knowledge of prompt injection protection, content moderation, auditability, and AI security controls.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and production cloud operations.
- Relevant AWS, AI, Machine Learning, Data Engineering, or Software Engineering certifications.
