Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend / AI Engineer with 4–8 years of experience. You will be responsible for heavy execution and orchestration—writing complex APIs, implementing agentic frameworks, and ensuring our AI solutions run efficiently on AWS. As a senior member of the technical team, you will act as a bridge between the Solution Architect's vision and the development team, mentoring junior engineers and ensuring code quality, performance, and scalability.You will be a core technical driver in building advanced AI-powered EdTech products. This involves creating robust Python and Node.js backends, architecting database schemas in MongoDB, and deeply integrating foundational AI models into existing Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard) via LTI and JS integrations. You will also build upon our proprietary Kadal platform to rapidly deploy specialized educational AI tools.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Development & Orchestration:

• Design, build, and maintain highly scalable backend services and APIs using Python (Flask/Django) and Node.js.

AI & LLM Integration:

• Integrate foundation models (Google Gemini, OpenAI, Azure AI) into applications.
• Implement and optimize emerging agentic frameworks and MCP protocols.

Database Architecture:

• Design and manage complex data structures and queries in MongoDB to support data-intensive AI operations and analytics.

EdTech & Kadal Integration:

• Develop deep integrations with client LMS platforms (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle) using LTI standards.

• Leverage LearningMate's proprietary platform to accelerate product delivery.

Mentorship & Code Quality:

• Mentor Junior Engineers, conduct thorough code reviews, and champion best practices in software engineering, security, and AWS deployment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• 4–8 years of professional experience in backend software engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Python (Flask/Django) and Node.js for building robust APIs.
• Hands-on experience working with NoSQL databases, specifically MongoDB.
• Proven track record of integrating LLMs/AI APIs (OpenAI, Gemini, Azure) into production applications.
• Experience deploying and managing applications on AWS.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior developers and lead technical execution within an Agile pod.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in the EdTech industry, specifically with LTI standard integrations and LMS platforms.
• Familiarity with frontend technologies (React, Tailwind CSS) to effectively collaborate with full-stack teams.
• Experience working with or building upon proprietary internal CMS or agentic platforms (like LearningMate's Kadal).
