Job Description

Job Role: Aerodynamic Design & Control Engineer

Location: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai    

About the project:

The project aims to develop a Cyclorotor-Based Versatile Orientation Drone, leveraging novel propulsion and control architectures for agile maneuvering and VTOL capabilities. The research involves integrated structural, aerodynamic, and manufacturing design, culminating in a functional prototype with embedded control. This is a hands-on, interdisciplinary R&D project ideal for candidates who are passionate about drones, new propulsion systems, and real-world design challenges.

Qualification and Key Skills Required:

  • PhD with relevant experience OR

MTech / ME in Mechanical engineering, Robotics, with relevant experience OR

BTech / BE or Mechanical engineering, Robotics, with relevant experience.

  • Proficiency in low-speed aerodynamics and unsteady flow analysis.
  • Experience with CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, Open FOAM) and rotor performance prediction tools.
  • Familiarity with flight dynamics and basic drone control principles (PID, stability margins).
  • Experience with experimental validation or wind tunnel testing is desirable.

Job Profile:

  • Design and optimize cyclorotor blade for efficient thrust generation and control.
  • Perform aerodynamic simulations and validate thrust, torque, and moment characteristics.
  • Support the development of control strategies for orientation and thrust vectoring.
  • Collaborate with embedded systems and structural teams to ensure functional integration.
  • Any other work assigned as per requirement.
