Job Description
Role Summary
Lead a high-performing software team delivering quality product features in Unity for Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) scenarios. Translate technical requirements from the Architect and Product Owner into clear engineering plans, mentor engineers on best practices, and ensure end-to-end delivery across the SDLC with strong technical rigor.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Architect and Product Owner to understand, challenge, and refine technical requirements, break them into epics/stories, and define acceptance criteria.
- Own technical roadmap for Unity-based features; drive estimations, dependencies, and risk mitigation.
- Lead sprint execution, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and release readiness; uphold engineering standards (design documentation, unit/integration testing).
- Ensure performance, reliability, and maintainability across mobile/desktop/XR platforms; proactively remove delivery blockers.
- Coach engineers on C#, Unity patterns (ScriptableObjects, ECS/DOTS), profiling/optimization, and secure coding.
- Foster a culture of craftsmanship, documentation discipline, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to architectural decisions (rendering, input, scene management, networking), advocate for clean architecture and SOLID principles.
- Institutionalize code review and quality gates (static analysis, test coverage, performance budgets).
- Communicate status, risks, and mitigation to leadership; ensure features align to product KPIs and user experience goals.
Qualifications
Must-Have Qualifications
- Unity 3D Expertise: 8+ years building production Unity apps/games; mastery of scene management, asset pipelines, physics, animation systems, input systems, addressables, and Unity Profiler.
- C# Excellence: Strong object-oriented design, asynchronous programming, memory management, performance tuning, unit testing frameworks.
- AR/VR Experience: Hands-on delivery using AR/VR SDKs/frameworks (ARCore/ARKit, Vuforia, OpenXR, Oculus/SteamVR, MRTK), including deployment to relevant stores/devices.
- SDLC Mastery: Demonstrable experience across requirements, design, implementation, testing, release, and support; Agile/Scrum proficiency.
- Leadership: 24+ years leading engineersmentoring, setting coding standards, conducting design/architecture reviews, and driving delivery outcomes.
Nice-to-Have
- Exposure to DCC tools (3DS Max/Maya) and shader authoring; understanding of GPU/CPU optimization strategies.
- Knowledge of DevOps for Unity builds (CI/CD, caching strategies, build farm orchestration).
Responsibilities in Detail
- Translate architecture/product intents into technical specs, sequence diagrams, and tasks; maintain technical backlog and definition-of-done.
- Establish coding conventions and enforce via PR templates and automated checks; run code reviews with actionable feedback loops.
- Define test strategy (unit, integration, playmode tests), performance budgets, and profiling gates; track quality metrics.
- Champion CI/CD: automated builds, test execution, and artifact management for target devices.
- Partner with QA/UX on usability and reliability; ensure defects are triaged and prevented via root-cause analysis.
Education
BE/B-Tech/MCA/M-Tech (Computer Science or related) or equivalent experience in game/software engineering.
Key Outcomes & KPIs
- Feature Delivery: % of sprint commitments met; cycle time.
- Quality: Defect escape rate; test coverage; performance budgets met on target devices.
- Reliability: Crash-free sessions; memory footprint targets.
- Engineering Health: PR review turnaround; adherence to coding standards; build success rate.
- Mentorship: Individual development plans completed; team skill progression (Unity/C# competencies).
