Job Description

Company Description Phorcys Vx Marines Private Limited is a marine deep-tech startup focused on advanced propulsion systems, digital twin technology, predictive maintenance, and clean retrofit solutions for the maritime industry. The company is building India's first large-scale 2-stroke marine engine R&D test-bed at IIT Madras Thaiyur Campus to enable engine testing, dual-fuel retrofit development, component innovation, and smart marine diagnostics. Team members collaborate closely with leading academic and industry partners to advance next-generation marine technologies. The organization is committed to efficient, intelligent, and sustainable marine engineering solutions that support decarbonization and operational excellence in shipping.

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Additive Manufacturing role based in Chennai. The team member will support the design and fabrication of components using additive manufacturing processes for marine propulsion and engine systems. Daily tasks include preparing 3D models for printing, setting up and operating additive manufacturing equipment, monitoring builds, and performing post-processing and inspections to meet engineering specifications. The role involves close collaboration with R&D, manufacturing, and test-bed teams to prototype, iterate, and optimize parts for performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Responsibilities also include documenting process parameters, maintaining equipment, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, and assisting in training team members on additive manufacturing best practices and safety standards.

  • Effective Communication skills, including the ability to document processes clearly and coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering and operations teams.
  • Experience in Training or mentoring team members on manufacturing processes, safety practices, and equipment usage.
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Hands-on experience with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) and basic knowledge of design for manufacturability and design for additive manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with quality control methods, measurement tools, and basic material science relevant to metallic and polymer components.
  • Ability to work on-site in a lab or test-bed environment, manage multiple tasks, and follow safety and compliance protocols.
  • Experience in marine, automotive, or heavy engineering domains is an advantage but not mandatory; willingness to learn marine applications is essential.
