What a Platform Development Manager does at HP:

  • Project Leadership: Oversee end-to-end platform development, from concept through production, ensuring alignment with business and customer objectives.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with engineering, design, supply chain, and marketing teams to ensure seamless hardware and software integration.

  • Innovation & Quality Assurance: Lead ground-up hardware development efforts with a focus on delivering exceptional quality and user experience.

  • Agile Development: Drive schedule acceleration initiatives - including platform pull-in strategies - while maintaining engineering excellence.

  • Cost Optimization: Proactively identify and lead cost-saving opportunities at the system, module, and commodity levels, working closely with engineering and procurement teams.

  • SVTP Management: Own the System Validation Test Plan (SVTP) documentation, consolidating and refining test criteria to improve product quality and reduce risk.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary liaison with internal and external partners, ensuring alignment on goals, milestones, and deliverables.

  • Risk Management: Anticipate development challenges and lead mitigation strategies to minimize disruption and ensure program success.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in product or platform development, with at least 3 years in a leadership role overseeing notebook or related hardware programs.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of product architecture, HW/SW co-design, system integration, and platform-level decision-making.

  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead diverse, global teams and drive execution across multiple concurrent development efforts.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to clearly present complex topics to cross-functional and executive audiences.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a track record of delivering innovative and practical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with PC product development process, internal systems, and cross-functional collaboration models.

  • Experience managing ODM/CM relationships and navigating supply chain or logistics challenges.

  • Programming & Digital Skills: Hands-on experience with Python, Power BI, and other tools that enable digital transformation, automation, and data visualization in development workflows.

  • Domain Knowledge: Working knowledge or experience in Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), thermal design, or commodity management is highly preferred.

  • Awareness of market and technology trends in notebooks, system performance, and user experience design.
