Job Description

Your team: This is an exciting opportunity to join an award-winning publisher in a professional, dynamic and creative Editorial team.

Your role: Reporting to the Editorial Director, Acquisition Executive will be responsible for acquiring titles from publishers, agents, sub-agents and others for the India list in line with the organisation's publishing plan and selling subsidiary rights into Indian and international markets to meet revenue targets. This role is hybrid and is based in New Delhi.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Identify and acquire licenses for relevant books for the India market by keeping a sharp eye on market trends and gaps with a view to meeting revenue and sales targets
  • Work with the Editorial Director/commissioning team to sell sub rights: language, territory, format, etc.
  • Skillfully negotiate deals and contracts to achieve the best deals
  • Administer contracts at all stages of the process including processing contracts through Docusign and processing payments

Qualification and Prerequisites:

  • At least 2 years in a publishing company buying and selling rights across formats and territories
  • Existing relationships with key industry members are preferred
  • Strong focus on commercial targets
  • Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written
  • Good understanding of commercial and editorial potential of manuscripts and published books
  • Deep understanding of IP and contracts
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, other tools to track and process titles as needed
  • Familiarity with costing and budgeting
