Job Description

Role: CPA & Accounting Subject Matter Expert

Function: Accounting / Tax / Product Domain Expertise

Location: Bengaluru, India (Hybrid)

Type: Full-time

Industry: Accounting, AI / Technology, FinTech

About Company

An AI technology company founded in 2025, headquartered in Singapore and Bengaluru. The company builds an AI platform that acts as a specialized junior accountant for independent accounting firms.

It serves firms primarily across North America, delivering productivity gains exceeding five times in targeted workflows. Backed by $6 million in seed funding, the team of 8 is led by experienced AI and technology founders.

The company targets the $150 billion global accounting sector by automating routine tasks so accountants can focus on higher-value work.

Position Overview

As the CPA & Accounting Subject Matter Expert, you are the domain backbone of the product. You will work directly with US-based accounting firm clients, validate AI-generated outputs for technical accuracy, and translate real-world tax workflows into precise process specifications that engineering and product teams build on. This is a client-facing, hands-on role at the intersection of deep tax expertise and AI-native product development.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review US individual and business tax returns (1040, 1120, 1065, S-corps, partnerships) and validate AI-generated outputs before they reach clients
  • Run client discovery calls, manage document collection conversations, and handle filing season communication with US-based accounting firm clients
  • Translate complex, real-world tax workflows into step-by-step process documentation with edge cases for the product and engineering team
  • Act as the quality gate for AI agent outputs — flagging errors, identifying failure patterns, and providing structured feedback with specific corrective guidance
  • Identify workflow gaps, manual workarounds, and between-system pain points at CPA firms that the company's platform should address
  • Conduct tax research using IRC sections, PLRs, and Rev. Procs. for non-standard client situations and document findings clearly
  • Contribute to product feature feedback with specific, actionable input — not just identifying what's wrong, but articulating what correct behavior looks like and why

Must Have Criteria

  • Active CPA license (US) with 5+ years of hands-on US tax preparation experience — 1040s, 1120s, 1065s, S-corps, and partnerships
  • Direct, hands-on tax return preparation experience (not supervisory-only) at a small or mid-size CPA firm
  • 5+ years of direct client-facing experience with US individual and small business clients, including sensitive document and liability conversations
  • Working knowledge of bookkeeping fundamentals — chart of accounts, reconciliations, payroll entries, and how books feed into tax returns
  • Hands-on experience with at least one US tax software platform — UltraTax, Lacerte, Drake, CCH Axcess, or ProSeries
  • Experience documenting workflows in writing — process notes, SOPs, or structured specs — not just verbal institutional knowledge
  • Demonstrated comfort using AI tools (document summarization, draft generation, data extraction) as part of daily work

Nice to Have

  • Dedicated bookkeeping or accounting operations experience beyond tax preparation
  • Familiarity with tax practice management tools such as Karbon, Canopy, or TaxDome
  • Experience contributing to product or process design at a fintech, accounting tech, or SaaS company
  • Exposure to async-first remote work environments with distributed US and India teams

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to shape the product roadmap of a funded AI startup redefining how accounting firms operate
  • Direct collaboration with founders and a small, high-caliber team of 8 where your expertise has immediate impact
  • Hybrid work setup based in Bengaluru with regular engagement with US-based clients and partners
  • Competitive compensation with meaningful early-stage equity in a $6M seed-funded company
  • A front-row seat to building AI infrastructure for a $150 billion global industry — from the ground floor
