Accounting Operations Manager - 1

Job Title - Accounting Operations Manager - Level 1

Location: Pune (India) / Remote / Hybrid

Reports to- Technical Accounting Lead

Shift: 2:30 PM IST 11:30 PM IST / 5:30 PM IST 2:30 AM IST

Experience: 10 to 12 years

Job Type: Full-time

The Accounting Operations Manager (AOM) is responsible for end-to-end client delivery, financial accuracy, team leadership, and operational excellence. The role oversees month-end close, reporting, audit and tax coordination, client communication, and process improvement while leading and developing a high-performing accounting team.

Key Responsibilities

Client Management & Communication

  • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, managing all communication channels.
  • Prepare and lead client meetings with agendas, clear updates, and documented action items.
  • Understand client businesses, priorities, and pain points by reviewing financials and business information, and proactively align deliverables with client goals.
  • Customize reports, respond to ad-hoc requests, resolve complex accounting queries, and handle escalations professionally.
  • Maintain strong written and verbal communication, ensuring clarity, professionalism, and timely follow-ups.

Financial Close, Reporting & Technical Oversight

  • Review and oversee month-end close for all clients, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
  • Maintain hands-on expertise in core accounting processes (AP, AR, Bank Rec, Payroll, 941, accruals, AJEs) to guide the team effectively.
  • Conduct financial reviews, trend analysis, and variance investigations, providing actionable insights.
  • Customize and review financial reports, forecasts, and budgets as per client requirements.
  • Monitor and update forecasting tools and ensure reporting accuracy.
  • Finalize and file 1099s and ensure compliance with US GAAP and applicable regulations.

Audit, Tax & Compliance Support

  • Review audit and tax preparation files, including schedules and adjustment journal entries, before submission.
  • Coordinate with auditors, respond to queries, and ensure smooth completion of audits.
  • Monitor audit, tax, fiscal close trackers and ensure deadlines are met.

Team Leadership & Resource Management

  • Plan workloads, assign tasks based on capacity and skills, and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Monitor task status, time tracking, efficiency, and budget adherence using Canopy.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to team members; identify skill gaps and plan training and provide regular feedbacks.
  • Manage escalations, leave management, and ensure backup coverage when needed.
  • Foster trust-based delegation, emotional intelligence, and strong team communication.
  • Support onboarding and training of new senior team members and cover for Senior Associates when required.

Operational Excellence & Process Improvement

  • Standardize, develop, and improve accounting processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Finalize SOPs and ensure alignment with US Engagement Managers.
  • Oversee client onboarding, new app implementations, and project-based work.
  • Ensure team adherence to required trackers, documentation, and internal controls.
  • Leverage technology and tools to streamline workflows, reporting, and communication.

Collaboration, Culture & Leadership

  • Partner with TAL, US stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to ensure seamless delivery.
  • Promote a positive, accountable, and collaborative work environment.
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities and remote/hybrid team dynamics.
  • Lead by example, reinforcing company values of transparency, collaboration, generosity, and self-discipline.

Requirements

  • We are seeking an AOM L-1 with 10 to 12 years of accounting experience to join our team.
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, MBA or CA inter preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong background in GL accounting and experience
  • working with US GAAP. AP background not required.
  • Thorough understanding of nonprofit accounting principles added advantage.
  • Ability to apply accounting principles and solutions to meet unique client needs and clearly articulate proposed solutions to client's problems
