Job Description

Accounting Associate — Jamaica Retail Operations

Ocho Rios, Jamaica | In-Person | Relocation Required

About Us

Milano Jewelry is a fine jewelry retailer and duty-free retailer with over 35 years in the industry, headquartered in New York. We operate retail locations across multiple Caribbean islands and a growing U.S. e-commerce business. We are now expanding our on-the-ground finance team at our Jamaica location to handle our Jewelry Retail, Souvenir and F&B operation.

The Role

We're looking for a motivated Accounting Associate to relocate to Jamaica and take ownership of certain accounting, tax compliance, and financial reporting for our Jamaica retail operation. This is an in-person role based at our Jamaica store location. You'll manage the books end to end — from daily transaction entry through monthly, quarterly, and annual closes — while also serving as the primary point of contact for local tax filings, customs matters, and regulatory compliance.

What You'll Do

• Manage full-cycle bookkeeping in QuickBooks for the Jamaica stores, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations, and inventory-related entries.

• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring all entries are recorded accurately and on schedule.

• Prepare and organize financial records for income tax filing, coordinating with local and external tax advisors.

• Handle General Consumption Tax (GCT) calculations, filings, and remittances in compliance with Jamaica's Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) requirements.

• Manage customs documentation and communications related to jewelry imports, ensuring accurate duty classifications, valuations, and timely clearance.

• Liaise with local customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies as needed.

• Ensure compliance with all applicable Jamaican tax, customs, and business regulations, staying current with changes in local law.

• Generate financial statements and management reports for local and U.S.-based leadership.

• Maintain organized documentation to support audits, customs inspections, and regulatory inquiries.

• Flag discrepancies, unusual transactions, or compliance concern proactively to management.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (BCom, MCom, CA Inter, or equivalent)

• 3+ years of hands-on bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally in a retail or inventory-heavy environment

• Strong proficiency in Quickbooks or Tally

• Solid understanding of accrual-basis accounting and financial close processes

• Willingness to relocate to Jamaica — this is a full-time, on-site position

• High attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet recurring deadlines across accounting, tax, and customs workflows

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English — you'll interact with local government agencies, customs officials, tax advisors, store staff, and U.S.-based leadership

• Comfortable operating as the sole finance professional on the ground, taking initiative and problem-solving independently

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with Caribbean or Jamaican tax and regulatory frameworks (GCT, income tax, customs duties)

• Prior experience with import/export documentation or customs compliance, particularly for high-value goods

• Experience in the jewelry or luxury retail industry

• Exposure to financial reporting tools such as Power BI or Excel-based dashboards

• Previous international relocation or overseas work experience

What We Offer

• A stable role with a well-established, family-run fine jewelry brand with a 35+ year legacy

• International work experience in the Caribbean — live and work in Jamaica

• Relocation support to help you settle in

• Direct visibility to ownership — your work matters and is recognized

• Opportunity to grow within a company that's actively building out its in-house finance and operations capabilities across multiple geographies
