Job Title: Academic Manager Learning

Department: Learning

Reporting To: Senior Program Manager Learning & Product

Location: Pune / Mumbai (Hybrid)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Experience Level: 48 years

Background Preferred: Tech / Instructional Design / MBA

Industry Preference: EdTech (UpGrad, Unacademy, Simplilearn, Masai, Great Learning, etc.)

Overview

The Academic Manager Learning is responsible for owning academic quality, instructional design rigor, and execution consistency across programs.

This is an Instructional Designheavy role, not a content-writing role.

The individual will act as the academic architect and quality gatekeeper, ensuring that curriculum, lesson plans, assessments, and learning journeys are:

  • Pedagogically sound
  • Outcome-driven
  • Scalable across programs
  • Executable by junior teams (TAs, interns, content developers)

The role sits at the intersection of academics, instructional design, and program execution.

Key Responsibilities1. Curriculum & Instructional Design Ownership
  • Own end-to-end instructional design for assigned programs.
  • Define:
  • Learning outcomes
  • Competency maps
  • Bloom's-level progression
  • Session-level objectives
  • Ensure curriculum alignment with:
  • Degree requirements
  • Industry expectations
  • Program outcomes
  • Standardize curriculum structures across subjects and departments.
2. Academic Quality Control & Governance
  • Act as final academic reviewer for:
  • Lesson plans
  • Lecture notes
  • Assessments
  • Assignments
  • Define and enforce academic quality standards and rubrics.
  • Identify gaps in depth, sequencing, and cognitive load.
  • Ensure consistency of tone, structure, and rigor across content.
3. Team Leadership & Academic Operations
  • Lead and manage:
  • Academic Content Developers
  • Instructional Design Interns
  • Teaching Assistants (TAs)
  • Assign work, review outputs, and provide structured feedback.
  • Train junior team members on:
  • Instructional design principles
  • Content templates
  • Review standards
  • Ensure timely delivery of academic artifacts.
4. Program Execution & Faculty Collaboration
  • Translate curriculum design into executable classroom plans.
  • Work closely with faculty to:
  • Align teaching methods with learning outcomes
  • Improve session effectiveness
  • Refine assessments based on classroom feedback
  • Support faculty enablement with structured academic inputs.
5. Assessment & Learning Outcome Tracking
  • Design formative and summative assessment frameworks.
  • Ensure assessments are:
  • Outcome-aligned
  • Bloom's-mapped
  • Difficulty-calibrate
  • Review assessment data to identify learning gaps.
  • Recommend curriculum or instructional interventions based on insights.

6. AI-Assisted Academic System (Non-Coding)
  • Oversee AI-assisted workflows for:
  • Content drafting
  • Question generation
  • Curriculum mapping
  • Define prompts, templates, and review rules for AI usage.
  • Ensure AI outputs meet academic and pedagogical standards.
  • Prevent over-reliance on unverified AI-generated content.
Required SkillsInstructional Design & Academic Skills
  • Strong expertise in:
  • Instructional design frameworks (Bloom's Taxonomy, ADDIE, scaffolding)
  • Outcome-based education
  • Curriculum mapping
  • Ability to think at program level, not just subject level.
  • Strong academic judgment and quality sensitivity.

Leadership & Execution Skills
  • Experience managing academic or instructional teams.
  • Strong review, feedback, and mentoring capability.
  • Ability to balance speed, quality, and scale.
  • Comfortable working with structured processes and templates.

    • Strong proficiency in:
    • PowerPoint
    • Excel / Google Sheets
    • Google Docs
    • Familiarity with:
    • LMS platforms
    • Academic content pipelines
    • Curriculum documentation systems
    • Comfortable working with AI tools for academic workflows.

  • Eligibility & Background
    • Bachelor's degree in Technology, Engineering, or related field.
    • MBA or Master's degree preferred.
    • 48 years of experience in:
    • EdTech
    • Academic operations
    • Instructional design
    • Learning program management
    • Teaching Experience preferred
    • Prior experience in EdTech companies such as:
    • UpGrad
    • Unacademy
    • Simplilearn
    • Masai
    • Great Learning
    • Similar structured learning organizations (preferred).
