Position Overview
The Academic Head is responsible for providing strategic academic leadership across the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), IB Diploma Programme (DP), and Cambridge IGCSE. The role ensures excellence in curriculum implementation, teaching and learning, assessment practices, faculty development, and student outcomes while maintaining compliance with IB and Cambridge standards.
The Academic Head will work closely with school leadership, programme coordinators, teachers, students, and parents to foster a culture of innovation, inquiry, academic rigor, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, implementation, and continuous enhancement of the IB PYP, IB MYP, IBDP, and Cambridge IGCSE programmes.
- Monitor academic standards and ensure consistency across all grade levels.
- Ensure curriculum alignment, vertical articulation, and seamless transitions across programmes.
- Oversee curriculum design, review, and documentation in accordance with IB and Cambridge requirements.
- Ensure effective implementation of assessment policies and practices.
- Analyze student achievement data and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
- Guide departments in curriculum mapping, interdisciplinary learning, and assessment moderation.
- Lead programme evaluation and accreditation readiness processes.
- Identify professional development needs and organize training programmes.
- Support university and career readiness initiatives within the IB DP.
- Contribute to long-term academic planning and school development initiatives.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Education or a related field.
- Recognized teaching qualification (B.Ed., PGCE, or equivalent).
- Minimum 10–15 years of teaching experience in international curricula.
- At least 5 years of academic leadership experience in IB and/or Cambridge schools.
- Extensive knowledge of IB PYP, IB DP, and Cambridge IGCSE frameworks.
- Experience with accreditation, authorization, and programme evaluation processes.
