Technical Payments Business Analyst

Job Summary:
Strong experience in cross-border payments, SEPA payments, SWIFT messaging, ISO 20022 standards, and modern payment technology platforms. The ideal candidate will act as a bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, translating business needs into functional and technical solutions, while supporting end-to-end payment implementation, configuration, testing, and delivery
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, analyze, and document business, functional, and technical requirements for payment initiatives across cross-border, SEPA, SWIFT, ACH, RTP, FedNow, and Fedwire payment rails
- Create and maintain key project documentation including Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), Functional Specification Documents (FSDs), technical specifications, implementation documents, process flows, business rules, use cases, and mapping documents
- Work closely with business stakeholders, product teams, developers, QA teams, and client technical teams to convert business requirements into detailed technical requirements and solution designs
- Define and support end-to-end payment flows for cross-border payments, SEPA payments, direct payments, serial payments, and cover payments
- Support payment message analysis, mapping, and transformation and customer-specific payment format mapping and assist in payment/message workflow investigations
- Contribute to implementation and configuration of payment platforms, including business rule setup, payment engine configuration, and core banking integrations
- Collaborate on end-to-end implementation of payment and banking solutions, including integration with compliance, OFAC screening, fraud detection, AML reporting, and middleware partner systems
Technical Responsibilities
- Strong technical understanding of payment platforms, APIs, system integrations, database structures, message flows, and configurable payment engines
- Work with modern technology stacks and tools such as SQL, MongoDB, Postman, Kafka, Git, SVN, Bitbucket, Jira, Rally, MS Visio, Lucidchart, Miro, Enterprise Architect, and Confluence
- Should be able to understand solution design involving REST interfaces, UI screens, entities, components, validations, mappers, and configuration layers
- Collaborate with engineering teams on interface specifications, implementation design, request-response mappings, and integration requirements
- Assist with technical implementation and deployment support for payment platforms such as OPF, Finzly BankOS, BackOffice, FXStar, and Finastra Swift and Filter
- Support real-time and traditional payment processing implementations across Fedwire, FedNow, RTP, ACH, and SWIFT ecosystems.
- Translate business needs into technical artifacts that support development, testing, implementation, and production readiness
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a Business Analyst / Technical Business Analyst in the payments domain
- Strong knowledge of cross-border payments, SEPA payments, SWIFT MT messaging, ISO 20022 MX standards, and payment investigations
- Experience working with payment message formats across SWIFT MT 100/200/900 series and ISO 20022 message families
- Strong understanding of payment processing flows, STP, payment risk and controls, and end-to-end transaction lifecycle management
- Experience in requirements gathering, enhancement analysis, change requests, backlog grooming, sprint planning, UAT, and production support
- Ability to bridge business and technical teams and convert requirements into clear, structured functional and technical documentation
