Job Description

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Test Planning & Strategy
  • Develop comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts for data warehouse and ETL processes.
  • Analyze business and technical requirements to determine test scope, priorities, and acceptance criteria.
  • Define data quality validation approaches covering data completeness, accuracy, transformation logic, and referential integrity.
  • ETL & Data Validation
  • Perform ETL testing, including source-to-target data mapping validation, transformation rule verification, and workflow dependency testing.
  • Validate data across various layers (staging integration layer warehouse data marts).
  • Conduct regression testing, system integration testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT) support.
  • Verify data consistency across different systems, dashboards, and reporting tools.
  • SQL & Automation
  • Write complex SQL queries to perform data profiling, reconciliation, and validation of large datasets.
  • Optionally participate in test automation using tools like Python, PySpark, SQL automation frameworks, or CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with developers to design testable ETL components.
  • Defect Management
  • Document defects clearly with supporting evidence, logs, and SQL outputs.
  • Track and manage defects using tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or Rally.
  • Work closely with data engineers to troubleshoot issues and retest fixes.
  • Collaboration & Documentation
  • Work with data architects, engineers, BI developers, and business analysts to understand data models and requirements.
  • Review and validate source-to-target mapping (STM) documents, data models, and ETL specifications.
  • Maintain clear documentation of test results, data validation approaches, and QA guidelines.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong SQL skills (complex joins, aggregations, window functions, data profiling).
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts (facts, dimensions, SCDs, star/snowflake schemas).
  • Experience testing ETL pipelines (e.g., Informatica, SSIS, DataStage, Azure Data Factory, Snowflake tasks, Databricks jobs).
  • Experience working with large datasets and BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker, MicroStrategy).
  • Familiarity with data modeling concepts and metadata.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience with QA methodologies, test management tools, and defect tracking systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Experience with big data technologies (Spark, Hive, Databricks).
  • Knowledge of Python or similar scripting languages for test automation.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps processes.
  • Prior experience in finance, healthcare, or other dataintensive industries.
