As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Backend, you will work on distributed systems, and building next generation products. You will help the team to bring industry best practices in software development and operations while improving their engineering skills to build pioneering e-commerce experience in new global markets. Working closely with a group of engineers in multiple geographic locations, you'll solve challenge problems at scale with high reliability. Your efforts will directly have an impact on tens of millions of users every single day!
Key Responsibilities:
- Building and innovating warehouse-facing inbound & inventory operations systems
- Receiving & Stowing: Systems that handle product intake, quality checks, and warehouse placement
- Inter-FC Stock Movement: Orchestrating product transfers across fulfillment centers
- Supplier Operations: Managing inbound shipments, vendor returns, and supplier integrations
- Reverse Logistics: Processing customer returns efficiently and getting products back into inventory
- Multi-tenant Architecture: Commonizing solutions across different business domains and regions
- Automation Integration: Collaborating with AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) teams to enable seamless warehouse automation
- Global Expansion: Building systems for Korea and Taiwan markets
- Working with our modern backend stack: Java/Spring Boot, Apache Spark, Kafka, MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, AWS Infrastructure, Temporal

Qualifications:
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with backend focus
- Experience with Java/Spring or similar JVM frameworks
- Understanding of distributed systems, messaging patterns (Kafka), and data storage strategies.
- Passion for building reliable, scalable, and maintainable systems
- Curiosity about supply chain, warehouse operations, and logistics challenges
- Experience with multi-tenant architecture design
- Experience working with cross-functional teams (hardware, automation, operations)
- Experience building systems for international markets
- Experience with Temporal
- Background in high-volume transactional systems
Type of work model:
Hybrid - Our Hybrid work model: Coupang hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration that acts a catalyst to enrich the experience of employees. Employees are required to work at least 2 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 3 days a week, depending on the role requirement. Some businesses may require more time in office due to nature of work.
